Anime Central in Chicago

May 14, 2007 13:13

I went to Anime Central at the Hyatt Hotel in Chicago. It kinda sucked for me, though, because when I went to retrieve my registration (after waiting in line forever) I found out that the order that I had sent online had not gone out. I had a chance to meet bloodangel, as well as zerodotjander and nothing0011. They were all interesting people ( Read more... )

"You guys DO realize that I am gay, right?"

I try not to make assumptions, you know?

She also tried to con someone into temporarily giving me their badge, and it didn't work. =/

By which you mean me? :P I am wise to girlish tricks. Especially when I realize right away that we're not each others' types. She was cute as a button though. :3

she supposedly hates me now for being a shitty escort or something.

For the record, she's a pretty shitty escortee. I didn't like the way she waved me away whenever she ran into a friend when I was hanging out with her. I wouldn't have done the same to her. Well, that might be forgivable, but I didn't try to exchange any sort of contact information since giving out info to a /b/tard you've known for one day is a bad idea. :P

The security radios weren't working, though, and since he was a really fat dude I didn't have any trouble at all in getting away from him.And and nothing0011 and for awhile some hot girl were throwing stuff off the tenth floor. Two security guys came and tried to get us ( ... )

It has nothing to do with having good or bad relationship skills. It has more to do with the fact that you don't want to feel like you're being used. I wanted to walk up to you, ask for your badge, and then bring it back immediately before your panel ended. That would have been a reasonable suggestion, and I think that you would've allowed it to happen if it wasn't for the fact that your paranoia about it progressively got worse ( ... )

Looks like I unintentionally trolled you.

In all fairness, I shouldn't be so paranoid. But I imagine she would have had better luck telling me what she wanted. She was being coy by summoning me and refusing to say why. I had a bad experience with that exact manuver in the past that I don't tend to talk about. And when I blew you off later when you called asking me to call the others, it was only because I and Karl were lost miles from the convention center(by the Forest Preserve).

And I wasn't referring to your note. I promise.

This is some delicious, delicious drama.

Also, I think conventions kind of suck. There's invariably tons of shitty panels I don't care about and guests I don't want to wait in line to see, and a dealer's room with overpriced stuff I don't want to waste money on. I pretty much go to them to play games and hang out with people and hopefully get drunk Saturday night, all of which was accomplished! So it was a great trip.

This convention really wasn't that bad. When I was in UGAnime, I went to a lot of conventions that really did suck. This convention had a lot of events going on, and there were also a lot of friendly people to do shit with. I'd really like to show up to cosplay for the next one that I sign up for, and that's probably going to be either Anime Expo or Otakon. Both, maybe, if I can afford it.There's invariably tons of shitty panels I don't care about and guests I don't want to wait in line to see, and a dealer's room with overpriced stuff I don't want to waste money on.
Exactly. I really show up for these things only because of the people, and I rarely do it because I want to buy stuff. When the really interesting people showed up on Saturday afternoon, and when they decided to fuck some things up, then it became much more fun. Before that, the convention was about the stupid fucking panels and the overpriced stuff.

And the drama also helped serve to spice things up.

I should be at Anime Expo this year if I can get my flight in time.

Also, lol at me staring into an astral plane at your stunning revelation.

That was absolutely hilarious.

The Something Awful thread on this upcoming convention has been (un)surprisingly uninformative. I'm not sure that I'll be able to room with anyone from it - but if you're showing up for this, would you mind doing the room thing again?
