I was around six when Star Wars: Return of the Jedi came out, but it was certainly memorable. I had already seen the other movies so I was going into it already loving the main characters, and that included Princess Leia. She was a strong, competent leader. Leia never played the “look at how cute I am” game. She could be friendly, even flirty, but that presentation of her displaying herself, especially on something directed at kids, shows how completely the point has been missed.

The point is that Princess Leia is strong, intelligent, competent, compassionate, and a royal bad-ass. Demean her, and she will choke you to death. You should respect her no matter what she is wearing, and that goes for everybody else too.
