[Actually, she's been bracing for any animals she met to shrink away in fear. Maybe he's just so young and stupid that he can't tell yet what's considered dangerous or not. Even if she doesn't have any intention to hurt him.]
I'll have to pick up something for him to eat on the way home.

That's a good idea. Perhaps some plastic bowls for his food and water would be better for him? It wouldn't do for him to break your glass in his excitement, and there's no telling when he last had anything to eat. I think a name is in order too.
