There's no way she'll ever be able to erase the experience and pain she felt on that day from her mind. Yet, there's so many more wonderful things for her to focus on.
A hand lifts away from the puppy to trail a gentle caress along his cheek. Fingers softly sweep his bangs to the side, exposing those beautiful, pale violet eyes. Others don't even realize, do they...?
This beautiful man, so cold and rocky hard, is more fragile than glass, and so very tender. Her voice is soft, a murmur, and reassuring.]

His brow creases further. Pained by the reminder, yet simultaneously relieved all over again. A solid lump gathers at the back of his throat.]

[A near silent sound; almost a plea. Gaze falling heavy with the tilt of his head into the gentle caress of her hand.]

[That entire time she'd felt her life drain from her bit by slow bit. Of course the healer helped. But who was responsible for that healer's presence? Funny...how in the end, despite all the pain, it was the taste of his blood that troubled her the most. It was crying-- screaming.

An aching warmth fills her heart.]
It was because Zero found me, that I got to live. Because Zero was there.
[Moving forward on the bed, she ignores the dog a moment, even the creature fading into nothingness as her attention focuses. Softly, like the breath of feathers her lips gently brush his in a stolen kiss, eyes closing as she softly whispers, before sinking tiredly against him.]

His eyes widened a touch. A brief moment of pure surprise, before the tenderness of such a phrase can tightly constrict around his heart and deeply lodge within his memory. A phrase that contradicts just as he can, both agonizing to hear and feel, yet altogether intoxicating and precious.
It isn't as if he's never considered the idea; rather, to truly hear those words is so different than simply tasting the emotions that colors her blood.
Nevertheless, there's a slight catch in his breath, although this time, his heart stumbles into a harder pulse. A part of his mind, far too illogical and resistant than he realizes is healthy for him (in spite of himself), can't not consider, even if only for a second or so, that maybe she's saying such a thing for other reasons, as well. That he is merely compensation for what she lost, at home.
Foolish, she says. Stupid, she says.
He's almost laughing at himself, on the inside. (She's right, isn't she? You're really the biggest idiot. Although, it sounds more like Ichiru, than his ( ... )

[Little more than a soft sigh against him. The ever comforting and familiar scent of him fills the air, the sound of his heart echoing faint within the back of her head. Better than any remedy or concoction, he's her drug, making it so easy to feel completely at ease.
It's no wonder, then, that snuggled against him like this, with his hands playing with her hair, that sleep is easy to claim her.
Zero...
Even if he doesn't believe it himself, there isn't another place that exists where she can feel this safe.]
