[ as the feed turns on, katsuya just stares blankly in silence for a while not sure how to even begin. he's not exactly nervous, but he does want very much to make a good impression. perhaps a bit too much so. it doesn't help that he's approaching the end of his fourth week, either, making his thoughts rather jumbled and preoccupied on... things he ( Read more... )

[Just going to bypass remarking on that lecture. Of course he's seen the broadcasts, but it's none of his business, in the end. It's annoying (and embarrassing), but he's perfectly capable of ignoring it-! The devices are at fault sometimes, too.

In the meanwhile-]

I'm interested, but how exactly is this different from the proposal made the other day?

[Interested, but he doesn't exactly plan on joining two of these groups. . . .at least this one is costume-free. Yikes.]

Hm... well this would be a bit more... [ normal? no, that's a mean thing to say. ] Conventional, I suppose you would say.

[ though he frowns a bit as he thinks back, recalling exactly what the other offer was. ]

A group of vigilante heroes operates outside the boundaries of the law. In truth, I can't really approve of that sort of recklessness... but it's understandable why people would resort to those sorts of methods here. Regardless, there are issues of accountability to take into consideration. [ a shake of the head. ] The police serve the public at all times. The ultimate goals may be the same, but the methods are different.

Point. However, whether a group works within or just beyond the boundaries would imply that those laws already exist here, when in truth, they either don't, as a whole, or we merely have yet to be informed of them. Taking into consideration of just how little us foreigners presently know about Zodion and its inhabitants, in spite of how the message the other day was delivered, the focus is, as you said, the same - assisting to and keeping the public safe -, and will remain so until we have a more solid idea of what we'll be facing. That said, I don't see there currently being a difference between the beliefs of those interested in your idea, and those who spoke up in regards to the potential vigilante group.

No matter what each individual's opinion is, both towards the groups, as well as how they view Zodion, the whole of us are a part of the same circumstances. Before any kind of authority comes to fruition, we first need to actually gather as much information about this world as we can.

Yes... I agree with that. I still believe the methodologies employed are quite different though. [ granted, it may simply be part of him being resistant to the idea that what he's doing is rather akin to vigilante justice, something he's very much against. ] Law may not formally exist here, but we all still retain some codes of conduct from our worlds and times before arriving here. Of course... there is a great deal of variation from person to person in this context. [ a shake of the head. ] But greater transparency leads to higher accountability, especially from public servants. [ a sigh. ] Perhaps there are simply nuances that won't become apparent until things get started, but I assure you the operation of a police force and that of masked crime fighters is quite different.

Information is key, but I think we can all agree that it's quite scarce. Rather than simply waiting around for more to be given to us, I believe we need to do something to better protect ourselves... even if that means making mistakes due to insufficient intel

We do.

[It can go either way, frankly. He agrees with the core structure of needing to act, and that there likely are some basic rules that they could all agree upon. The conversation, however, as he's begun to realize, feels it will only wind around in circles.

Also, it's about being proactive. He's never expected anything to be handed to him, and isn't going to start with that, now. Coming up empty handed is a possible result at the beginning that he's very well aware of, already, but it doesn't mean he won't try. Sigh.]

Regardless, I'm going to see what I can further look into, at this point. I'm sure others have been doing similarly. My interest remains, but I'm not going to swear on anything right this moment. Should any of these ideas begin to solidify, I'd appreciate being included on those you'll be informing.

No, I understand. [ a smile. ] I appreciate your interest all the same. This isn't the kind of thing anyone should commit to on a whim... it's a decision that will likely place yourself in harms way in the future.

[ though those words cause him a brief pause as he recognizes their significance. was he ready to take responsibility for that kind of thing? ]

I'll be sure to contact you again in the future when things have developed further. May I have your name, Mister...?
