Objectively speaking, this is all in accordance to what I would have done if I had to lower myself to this extent in asking for help. Rather than permit the possibility of a "no", I would have done just this: assume the answer would be no and force the situation anyway. However do not mistake my understanding for sympathy. No matter how troubled ( Read more... )

Such strength, such conviction...!

[N is thoroughly impressed. most people arrive here screaming and crying and clutching their pearls. someone threatening to clutch your pearls and twist them off is rather refreshing.]

...When you say "a pound of flesh, do you mean a literal pound of flesh carved off of a human being?

[his tone is honest and inquisitive. he's heard his father use the term before and their underlings would usually shit themselves and scramble to please him in any way afterwards. it was probably an expression but one could never tell with ghetsis. maybe his daddy is a cannibal and he never knew?

If the metaphorical sense would serve me better, then I'm not so inflexible a person that I wouldn't accept that.

I mean only to give these Twelve a buyer's warning, if you will. It may be that they relied only on a fleeting impression and did not realize what they've brought onto themselves by bringing me here. Gods can be careless. The authority I speak with isn't entirely my own, however.

Ah, yes, I suppose in a situation like this, it would be best for one to take what they can get.

Is that so? Do you serve a higher power of sorts back in your own world? There are many different people here with different degrees of power-- some are even revered as gods back in their own world, so unless your own abilities are not sealed somehow, it seems unlikely that there is much you can do up against the Twelve.

I do not. My existence is indispensable only to very few people. I'm not shackled by anything like duty or a higher purpose to limit my actions.

There's a lot to be said about ingenuity... but then if the Twelve are underestimating me as much as you are, it's my interest to keep it that way.

I mean no disrespect. I am simply being pragmatic and honest. The Twelve are quite elusive, you see, and do not make themselves available to us very often. I cannot even remember the last time I have seen them. We have been planning an uprising against them since we first arrived here, but it has been difficult to get anything done with such well-hidden hosts.
