Quest 2 [video]

[Rance is sitting cross-legged in an armchair like so with another grin on his face.]

Okay, everybody. Those gods clearly aren't fit to rule this place. What we need is a king. And that king should be me, the great Rance-sama. [He thumbs to himself.]

I was going to be the king of Zeth back home anyway, so I'm perfect for the job. [Even if he ( Read more... )

[go right and be king, N's had enough of that shitty job to last a lifetime.]

Being a king is not such an easy task, you know. Do you have any prior experience running a large body of people? Though personally, I would question the effectiveness of a self-appointed ruler. If we are to have a king, I believe electing such an individual would be a much better way to find the person most qualified for the job.

Yeah, I've commanded armies and stuff. I'm a born leader. And I think electing someone would be bullshit. It'd be a popularity contest and unfair to the new people.

That's a rather abject way to look at it. A leader should be popular. After all, an impersonable face representing the people simply will not do. A good king should be able to relate to his people and have no problem reaching out to them, do you not agree? Furthermore, electing someone who is not as familiar with our capricious environment would be to our detriment.

[Wow that's a lot of weird words.]

Uh, sure.

But, you know, a king has to be strong too.

[a blink.]

Physical strength is certainly an asset, but a king should prioritize guiding his people and ensuring his domain is running efficiently rather than fighting battles elsewhere. As for fortitude, well-- a person who lacks such a thing wouldn't last very long as a king anyway so that should go without saying.

[Damn, that was what 3G was for...]

Well, that's what assistants are for.

[N's ability to take this guy seriously is starting to rapidly dwindle.]

What use is a king who allows his assistants to run his domain for him? It would be far more prudent to simply appoint that person to a position where their jurisdiction oversees the battlefront while these assistants of his are the real governing body.

[he knows he probably can't talk when it comes to the proper form of leadership, but he is a harmonia and he did observe ghetsis whenever he could. he likes to think he knows a thing or two.]

[Oh, that sounds exactly like the situation in Oda...]

That's sort of like a situation I had in my head. I'm a really good commander. Military stuff is better for me, but if someone else could handle all the internal political junk, it'd be great.

Perhaps organizing a militia would be a better option for you? It seems to be your area of expertise, so managing soldiers should be no problem for you.

I guess. But I think it's better this way right now. I need to get people's attention.

If you want to help, you can, though. You'd make a good 3G or Maris.

I think I understand. Did you make this post to lure in potential candidates for kingship as a test? If so, this is very clever.

[he might be giving this guy too much credit though.]

I do not know what a 3G or a Maris is, but thank you. I would be happy to help everyone in any way I can.

Well, I didn't mean to lure in king candidates, I wanted to get people to notice and remember me for the future, even if my plan isn't going to go like I described it. I can't be just another person here. And, hey, if someone did want to join me, then all the better!

Oh, and 3G was a youkai advisor to Nobunaga back in Japan with three heads who handled the political stuff when I became the secret ruler. [Think like how Dodrio has happy, sad, angry] Maris was the advisor to Queen Lia and...sort of kept her in line.

I suppose that's still a clever way to go about it. I certainly won't be forgetting you any time soon.

[O_O youkai? nobunaga? japan? oh gosh.]

I heard vaguely of Japan, but since I'm not from your world some of this goes over my head. However, they sound like capable advisers, especially this 3G if they were handling such complex issues in your stead.

[well it's actually JAPAN and it's a parody of Sengoku era Japan, but details]

Yeah, he was good with dealing with those things. Since he was already there before I became the secret ruler, I figured I might as well let him continue doing it.
