I wrote this at work on Friday while crying at my desk.A good number of people who’ve visited our home over the past eight years probably never realized that we had two cats. Lilah, the velvet gray party cat, is always at hand to squawk at guests and demand attention. Anise, in contrast, hid under the bed at the sound of strange footsteps, or, ( Read more... )

I'm so sorry. I'm glad he got to have his last moments at home, though. I know it won't be too long before I have a story like this about Sadie. Why can't they stay around longer? They are so much better than most people. :(

It's so hard, saying goodbye. You and Matt did it beautifully. My sympathies to you both, and to Lilah.

Z, you've got me on the verge of tears here in the library. I am so, so sorry.

My one girl cat is also super skittish, big-eyed, and a fetcher, and... sounds like Anise had a lot in common with her. I couldn't stand to lose Mal.

Putting an animal down just sucks. I have had to do it a couple of times, and I still question it whenever I think about it, even though I know it was right, even though one of the times the vet even said "This cat is in terrible shape. You're doing the right thing."

But at least your kitty was at home, with you, no car rides, no more vomiting and pain. It sounds Anise didn't have a lot of a chance at the shelter, being so scared, but he won the owner lotto and had a great and loving life. He is lucky to have had you all. Maybe you'll see him on the other side.
