A political issue! Run for the hills! 
I don't ususally do this, in fact, I avoid it like the plague, but I feel like pointing out some things that are quite important and people seem to be missing completely regarding the whole student fees affair.

Would you have been happy not to get a degree, or have you always wanted to teach?

I'd have been OK without a degree. I didn't do one for employment reasons at all (it's a BA English!) - I did it as education for the sake of education, to enrich myself spiritually. My current job, and a lot of other jobs I may find myself doing at some point (not teaching, if I do do that) are jobs I think I can/could do just as well having come straight into them from A levels.

I didn't study primarily for employment reasons euither when I started, but if I could not have done it, I'd have always regretted it.

Mind you, I'm still not finished!

I would have been the last year to get a grant if I had enrolled after my extra year of A'levels. I could not have afforded to go as I did not live with my parents. I was not prepared to make the commitment to be in a huge amount of debt and at the time, living on campus was something my partner was very much against. I moved out of home when I was 16...

Back of fag packet maths says that in many instances these loans will *never* be paid off, given size of loan plus interest rates ( ... )
