Dear whoever is considering moving the May Day Bank Holiday to St George's Day instead, would you kindly FUCK OFF.

Some of us rather like having the 2nd most important festival of our marked in such a way and would rather resent having it moved to a day which celebrates the story of a random guy in the middle east somewhere imposing forced baptism ( Read more... )

I completely agree! I hate the government's excuse that having St. George's Day or Trafalgar Day instead would 'extend the tourist season', because sometimes things like our traditions and people's religious holidays are MORE IMPORTANT THAN TOURISTS.

It will never happen. If you thought the outcry against selling off woodlands was good, see what happens with May Day!

Apparently they tried this when John Major was in. Apparently I wasn't listening... as I don't remember it :-s
