I didn't really think I had anything to say about this week's episode of Ripper Street, but then I read this article and it turned out I had things to say after all. So: ( Ripper Street 2x02 )
I haven't seen the rest of Ripper Street and I don't think I want to, but I watched this ep and I agree that it was boring. Though idk maybe it's because I haven't seen the rest, don't know the characters, etc. I LOLed at this article because oh, so true. XD you've apparently managed to land another character who shows up to replace a recently departed fan favorite. And so far you're just not [insert recently departed fan favorite]. I never get this feeling because when it came to BH, I liked him instantly and I never felt like he was "replacing" Mitchell (not until series 5 actually did make him act a lot like Mitchell in some cases) and in this case I've never seen the fan favourite he's replacing, but I can imagine that it's annoying to some fans... Or maybe the character's tragic backstory/secret is that he's narcoleptic. Oh, that would be original! XD

This episode was a bit of a snoozefest, in my opinion (in that I actually *did* fall asleep and had to finish watching it the next morning). Ah well.
His character on Ripper Street is nothing like the character he's "replacing" here either, really. Except that people think they're both young, I guess. I agree though, Hal was far more likeable right from the start (and then he went downhill in series 5, so maybe Flight will follow the opposite path!)
The title of that article is great, and I found a lot of it amusing (mostly because I enjoy picking on characters for doing stupid things, and Flight did a lot of stupid things in this episode, and a lot of his one-liners really were eye-roll inducing and terrible) but I would have enjoyed it more if it wasn't so clearly written by a butthurt Hobbs fan (I seriously had no idea this character had a big following until this week).
I wouldn't say it's a super fave by any stretch, but I like Ripper Street overall. Even so, I honestly think I'd vote for Damien on your Murdoch Mysteries

Oh, his one-liners were dreadful but I kind of thought that was the point? Isn't he supposed to be annoying as hell? I just thought he was because all other characters made faces like: ugh go away XDDDD Ugh, I'd even write that spin-off (never mind that it'd be a fanfic, we could all just imagine Damien there), but I have no idea how to tackle that. XDDD
re: cheesy one-liners I think that was totally the point, yes!
re: spinoff The only things I know about this show and Gower's character are the things you've said in your posts, but I would totally read that fanfic! ;)
(I also still really want that fic with Cutler's doppleganger as Hal's series 5 recruit, PS!)
