I went for about a month without exercising. In that month, I gained ten pounds, probably because my eating habits were careless. My muscles atrophied a bit in that time, so I also have to go through the muscle soreness thing again, which I had forgotten about ( Read more... )

So does this mean you're going to be a fatass the next time I see you? I remember when I used to bike (motorized) along Blue Ridge Parkway to work. My core temperature would get pretty low, making me more susceptible to getting sick. I guess that wouldn't happen with regular biking, but I wonder what other hazards there will be.

Probably it won't mean that. Physically, I'm more comfortable without the extra load, so it would be careless for me to let it happen.

My job is currently the most depressing thing. Ironically, I think any ill effects from temporary lowering of my core temperature (I take a hot shower right after I get to work or return home) is offset by the alleviation of depression that biking somehow achieves. I don't know why I feel less gloomy when I ride, but I do. It could be something simple like me getting more sleep when I know I'm planning to ride the next day, it could be the fresh air, most likely it's the effects of being fully awake.
