A quick note on The Hunger Games: I, hater of all trendy lit, read the first book two weeks before the movie came out. Liked it. Loved the gender role reversal. Saw the movie. Also loved it. Stayed in and marathoned the last two books on Monday and am now absolutely in love. Will post more about this, um, at some point?

fic ideas I probably will not write; cut for series spoilers )

IT'S THE TORTURED NICE BOY THING; WE LOVE THAT SHIT. CRAZY+IN LOVE+(PHYSICAL x MENTAL) PAIN + BONER = YEESSSSS.

He gets to make at least one joke that made me crack up in the movie, so there's that. And he gets a fight scene! And his half delirious love confessions are kind of fun.

Wait, so the book's worth a read? Ive been giving the idea some thought, actually.
And give Peeta a break, he might not be a good warrior, but he sure mastered the art of the cockblock...live, on TV.
Seriously.

Holy shit, go read them right now. I totally take back every single dismissive thing I said about this trend. Katniss is a fucking baller and the whole series packs a punch and NAMOR IS IN IT, WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED.

Also, I love that Peeta gets a fucking wrestling scene in the movie. FUCK YES. I mean, the book mentions that he's big/stocky/strong and good at hand to hand, but he never gets to use it? And in the movie he's just like SINGLE LEG TAKEDOWN, EAT CORNUCOPIA, BITCH.

I mean, he still loses that bout, buuuut. No shame to losing to Cato.

Ill give the book a try then; althought i do have second thoughts after reading this comment on "Mockingjay":

"Mockingjay is just one testicle-kick after another, almost always at the end of each chapter.

'We run into the burning building and there are baby pandas on fire being raped by President Snow.' End of chapter 17."

Hhahah, yes, it is kind of like that. President Snow's last scene is so fucking EPIC, though.

I actually really liked Snow. hahah. um.

I feel so bad for [character redacted] throughout the whole fucking book, though. POOR BB. but kind of poor everyone.

it ends well, though. i mean, stylishly and artistically sound.

THE BABY PANDA ON FIRE.

You know, the possibilities of the Peeta-in-handcuffs thing had totally passed me by. Which is why it's good I read your LJ, because it would've been tragic if I'd had to go another minute without considering those possibilities. Yum.

What am I doing? I'm shipping a canon ship, for Pete's sake. I rarely do that. It's the role reversal, I think. Katniss as the badass warrior who pwns all, and Peeta as the sensitive cake decorator. Hey, someone has to decorate the cakes.

I neeeed to write it. I'm kind of surprised that everyone I've mentioned to hasn't thought of it yet? It's one of those times when I am gently reminded that I am, uh, very one track minded. BONDAGE SEX FOREVER.

And I knnnow, I never ship a cannon couple, either. Certainly I never like the nice boy. Peeta, what is your deal even.

I'm all over the role reversal, though, yes. I love how Katniss is so physically competent/deadly and overall brutal, to Peeta's sensitivity and intelligence. Though it helps that he's still a manly dude who can lift heavy things; apparently I'm into that.

I love chicks in charge, but I love it even MORE if the chick is in charge of a physically very able dude? Hmm. Anyway, I see a lot of the tropes that usually draw me to m/m in Katniss and Peeta, and that's cool.

AND HE BAKES, HOW GREAT IS THAT. So clearly I need to write the nice sensitive boy half out of his mind and suffering, because that's what I'm into.

YES YES YES HUNGER GAMES!!!!! I just read the three books last week, all in a row, and rather loved them - most especially the stuff with gender and having actual complicated characters some of which are FEMALE and all the stuff about violence and oppression and exploitation and, man, I loved it. ESPECIALLY that Katniss was so sarcastic about the makeovers to look pretty she had to do, because goddamn, SO much YA fiction has the girl worrying about her looks and trying to look pretty, and this is the ONLY one I can think of where the main character didn't care, and continued not to care, and there was no stupid lesson where she learned to care! I think my favorite bit (mock me if you will) was where she is releived when her leg hair grows back, because she felt weird and bald without it. (I was seriously so happy at that, it's ridiculous ( ... )

HI HI OH GOD I'M SO EXCITED THAT YOU'RE EXCITED BECAUSE I AM SO READY TO FANGIRL ABOUT THIS UNTIL I EXPLODE. I also marathoned the books! I think it's kind of great to not have to wait years for the story to go on. Man, there is something to be said for coming into trends late ( ... )

Kane would totally win as long as he wasn't vs. Luca, obviously, because he is a paranoid badass. With emphasis on the paranoid.

OH MY GOD. You really have to write Kane and Luca in Hunger Games now - it would work so well! Well, you know, you don't HAVE to - but I would certainly be filled with fangirlish glee if you did. :) And yes, Kane would be SO READY to fight for his life. But, you know, if he was from 13 he wouldn't have to, but then, if he was from another District, don't you think he'd be full of conspiracy theories about 13 and telling everyone he's sure there are still people there, and can't you just see him being the one to work out the thing with the stock footage and the bird flying past in the corner of the screen? And he'd be wanting to go there to see, but then: disaster! He gets picked as a Tribute ( ... )
