That's A Wrap

For the past few months, I have been dealing with a rather serious back injury.  It's called a wedge deformity, and it takes place when some sort of a stressor is placed upon your spine and causes the normally roughly cube-shaped vertebrae to deform into a vaguely wedge-shaped piece of bone and nerves.  It's quite painful, and over the course of ( Read more... )

I'm so glad to see you in good spirits again. I read all your FB posts and I knew how bummed out you were when you were told you couldn't skate. I know you were in pain but I had no idea it was that bad or that you'd had to stop driving the bus (although it makes sense if you think about it). All in all, 2014 better be a good year for everyone, cause 2013 was no shiny gold nugget. But, as always, you never fail to disappoint me with your perseverance. Good luck on your skates and fighting the publishers!

I forgot to mention that in fact it is not one, but three vertebrae that are affected in this way. This experience taught me to enjoy time I step out on that track, because there's no question that if I was a skater who engaged in the actual eight-wheeled combat as opposed to an official, I would have had to retire.

The last part of the season was very weird for me; I actually stopped going to practice for about a three weeks or so, because I felt so out-of-place there. Gradually I realized there was things that I could, and I must admit, the support of everyone asking "When are you coming back, Zombiegoat? We miss you out there," really helped.
