Hey good find! I had no idea Jo-ann's had gone out of business there. Well they kinda sucked anyways for customer service. Lonny got me my serger used through Bernina sewing center up north for a decent price.
Yeah, just the Capitol Plaza store is closing by mid-June. Everything is at least 30% off. Thanks for the info, I actually called them today and they didn't have any sergers under 999.00. :( I'm just waiting to save the money and I know I can find a Singer serger on ebay for around 150.00
Gwar kicks ass! I'm really sad to have missed them so many times over the years (it seems I always find out when they were in NY). Though I'm not sure I'm up to the "I am as cattle in the masses" crowd density that Gwar always commands here.
Sewing machines (especially old workhorse singers) are usually not too hard to find during the spring garage sale season, and as long as it's metal you'd be amazed the machines that can be salvaged. We got one that had been sitting in a puddle of water for years working just as well as our modern ones by soaking it in machine oil for a couple of weeks and wirebrushing the parts. As far as the serger definately keep an eye on Ebay and teach yourself to rethread the thing from memory as soon as possible. Believe me, it will save you a lot of aggrivation.
Thanks, I will have to look out for garage sales. It seems though that sewing machines get picked up quick here in Austin. As far as the threading goes, I have never owned a serger so I will need the instruction book. :P I can't even figure out how to thread my sewing machine. I have an old dressmaker with a tension wheel that doesn't work well and I'm not even sure that it is threaded right.
alex and i have always had a long-standing disagreement on why we enjoy gwar. i go mainly for the show, the music isnt really that interesting. he likes the music. that nut.
i think i've seen them in concert more than any other band. i try to see them every chance i get.
