If you don't have Dar Williams, she would fit your needs pretty well. Of course I can't remember names of her CDs right now, but I'll look it up for you. Hope that will fit the bill!

Maybe Jenny Lewis (Rilo Kilo)? She has a solo cd out soon or already. It is Neko Case-ish...

Dang! How could I have forgotten Cat Power? And Julie and I were just talking about it. I should have popped in "You are Free."

How do you like "The Greatest?" I've only heard the one song, but it's getting great reviews.

Nice icon, BTW.

Typically I have three reactions to new music: 1) This CD sucks, 2) This CD is awesome, 3) This CD might grow on me. The later is usually the best. A good example is The Woods by Sleater-Kinney. My initial reaction was lukewarm, but then it just seemed to get better and better. In fact of all the CDs I bought last year this one is still in rotation. But then of course there are CDs that start warm and just go cold. So back to The Greatest. I've played it three times and it seems to be getting better. I'll report back in a month.

Glad you dig the icon. Kinda weird I guess, but I like it.
