Why didn't I notice this before?

Just now, it seems I finally see a relation to the last three major US holidays, Halloween(Samhain in my book), Thanksgiving, and Christmas(Yule). Samhain seems to focus mostly on the past, what's come and gone, especially deceased loved one and times past ( Read more... )

My American friend who has relatives here in Britain says that British Christmas is more like Thanksgiving. I did visit America once on Thanksgiving and took part in a different friend’s family’s dinner. I thought it was, indeed, like British Christmas without the gifts. The main difference was that they invited non-family members, which would never happen at a British Christmas dinner as far as I’m aware.
