Yesterday one of the teachers in the PAL program (a program for Autistic kids) told me that the brother of one of her students was shot and killed the night before. She said she couldn't remember his name, but that he had just transferred to our school and was in 11th grade. This morning I checked the baltimore crime blotter and saw the name Davon ( Read more... )

From what I'm finding out, he was a wonderful kid that maybe just got mixed up with some of the wrong people. I hope that whoever was responsible for his death is found, unfortuatly I know that is harder said than done - especially here in Baltimore.

Hopefully his family will see these posts and know that there are many people out there that are with them in spirit, and remember Davon as a great kid.

You probably knew him better then I, having only had the chance to meet him once. But he seemed very nice and respectful in the 30 mintues I had with him. It's so sad to me that when a person, especially a KID under 18 is murdered in Baltimore all you get in the paper is 2 sentences about it. It's sad that my journal entry comes up on the first page when his name is googled. He was a human being, even with his problems and issues. His life is worth more than two sentances. He made it to 11th grade, so he obviously valued school to some regard and probably had ambitions and dreams for his life beyond high school.

Hello!
I am writing in response to what you have written above about Davon. He is my husband's godbrother/cousin. He has been estranged from his family since Dec. '06 and now we are trying to recreate his last weeks. Which school do you teach at and do you know where he may have been staying? Do you know where he possibly transfered from? Did he seem to be "okay" in homeroom when you met him? I know that this is an ongoing investigation but any information that you could provide that would help his family would be much appericated. If you are wondering how I found your blog, I googled his name and your blog was one of the sites that I found. I hesitated to post any type of comment but I have to know. His family has to know. Thank you for your help in this matter.

Sincerely,

My condolences to you and Davons family. I wish I would have gotten the chance to get to know him better. I try my hardest to get to know all my students, especially my homeroom kids. Even though many of the students at my school didn't know him well, we held a moment of silence in my class for him ( ... )

I can't imagine how difficult it is to go to work every day knowing that one of your students might not be alive the next day. I wish I could help somehow, it's so horrible what these kids go through every day of their lives.
