I am so sick and tired of fighting with students over the n-word. Most of my students say it every other word. My first couple of years teaching I wasn't as tough the word because I was so shocked that they actually said it. So now, whenever a kid says it...here is the dialog that commences

It might seem like a losing battle, but it must have SOME effect on the kids! You have every right to be mad about it, and the other teachers should be too. I think that using the f-word all the time isn't nearly as bad. It is all about respecting themselves, and each other, and you. I think that even common language (what seems common to them) can have a strong effect on their overall attitude and psyche. You are a great teacher, Alisha, an amazing person, and such a great influence on your students. Don't give up!
