Good stuff. I like how it is Wash who speaks and unexpectedly provides the focus. Great job getting into Zoe.

Heeee, I'm glad you liked! I love writing Zoe, but she is tricky, so it's nice to know you think she was convincing.

I can't take the credit for Wash's line, alas. That's all the Great Joss. But it was the fact that Wash gets that line that gave me the idea for this fic, because I think it's such an interesting reveal of his character. When it comes down to it, I think he genuinely cares about people, and that was one of the things I wanted to look at here, though I am not sure how much it came across.

Thank you for the lovely feedback! :D

That is a great observation about Wash and I really think it rings true. I sometimes think he has a hard time living in such a cold and cruel verse when he *does* care about other human beings.

This is a great view into Zoe's head, you really capture her voice and bring the moment alive.

Lovely writing.

Wooo, thank you! I'm very glad you liked. Zoe is one of my favourite characters, but it is nervewracking trying to get her voice, so it's great to know it worked for you.

I forgot that Mal and Zoe spent about 15 ays with the dead and dying after the war waiting to be evacuated. To her this WOULD be another "death valley." spooky feeling. good story.

Yes, she and Mal are so quiet about it, it's easy to forget. I read a really good fic about their time immediately after the war, once, but alas it seems to have been pre my deli.cio.us days and I cannot remember the name. Anyhow... I'm very glad you liked this one :D

Oh, it's good. So very good. It makes me feel like I'm looking over the edge of the cliff. There's so much tension here. Really, bookending it with Jayne and Wash, knowing that this is what Zoe's thinking through that terrible, ham-fisted zoom cut is a perfect juxtaposition of tension and release. We know there's no resolution for her, but she doesn't. Great, great work.
