I know where you're going, but I don't know why

Why, when I show people my stitching, why do they inevitably ask me if I sell it?  Why do people assume that if a person spends their time making things, they do it for capitalistic reasons?

Freaking bugs the shit out of me.

And why have I never, until now, thought to ask if they're inquiring because they want to buy something from me.  Maybe ( Read more... )

Good comeback. But, keep in mind that a lot of the time when people ask if you sell your work, that is their way of commenting on its high quality. That's why I would say it anyways. Of course, "That's lovely," would be more to the point.

I never thought of it that way. Maybe it's from wanting to say more than "That's lovely," but not knowing what more to say. I'll have to pay attention next time it happens. Thanks.
