Man, I've played a few hours of LBP and it is so goddamn wonderful. It's everything I was hoping it would be, and pretty much exactly what I was expecting ( ... )

Well don't get me wrong, it's a fine title. But I feel the PS3 still misses that one huge, excellent title (MGS4 is terrific but not enough actual game--I can vaguely recall actually playing it, though I LOOOVE the cut-scenes so I'm definitely not knocking that... I just wish there was more gameplay between them). LBP is a definite positive step for Sony; next gen will be determined by who is the most user friendly, and Sony is at the very top of that with Unreal Tournament's mods and LBP's entire game. I'm sure they'll have an N+ map mod soon enough too.

I'd give LBP a 9 even... It's fun but short. Yeah, I know the user maps will be sweet, etc., but I expect more official stuff out of the box for $60 since, in my opinion, that's the bulk of the experience. I've found with any user content, as cool as it is, it's far too hard finding good maps in the bundle of trash maps. The user ratings can only go so far in most cases, though I certainly applaud it; it's just simply not my style.

The problem I have is rating the story mode at all. It's because that aspect of it had been so downplayed during the hype that I didn't expect one at all. My friend didn't either, since I told him there was a single player mode and he was honestly surprised. As for the price, since I look at it as more of a toolset than an actual game, I don't have a problem paying $60 for it, considering how powerful the tools are.

We'll see, however, how well the user rating system works. So I can't really comment on that until the community gets really developed.

The difference in our opinions seems to be how we're viewing the product. 1UP's review of the game is pretty much exactly what I've thought of it so far.

I'm also INCREDIBLY disappointed with the lack of an internet server in this game. Even when the thing is running, it lags for around 30 seconds when retrying stages or anything of the sort. C'mon Sony, it's not that complicated to keep a steady pace for your most anticipated online title of the year, possibly ever on this system's lifespan. I'd love to try out some user stages if the thing actually loaded... I tried commenting on three stages only to get a "Timed Out" error two to three minutes later.

As Dan mentioned above, though, we'll start to see really amazing things from players, but the core of my complaints is pretty valid: if the creators themselves can't get around these glitches, what kind of problems will half-wits like me unearth?

That's actually not a bad idea. My friend and I were talking about how basically this is a low-point in videogame generations as far as the companies go. Microsoft made the shitiest hardware, Sony completely overestimated how much loyalty their customers have, and Nintendo basically abandoned its base of core players. If this generation is any indication of companies being able to learn from their mistakes, the next generation should be KILLER.

Put down LiBiPl and go back to N+ -- there's a new download pack for free!
