Leaving. Jet plane. Dude.

First plane trip is upon us shortly. I am trying to OVER prepare because I am already nervous. I'm not used to being the center of naked contempt and hostility. Taking a baby on an airplane pretty much guarantees we will be looked at with both even before we are on board ( Read more... )

We brought two big bottles of pumped milk -- they have a swab they hold over it to check for fumes. Presumably they have something similar for formula. As for the carseat, our infant seat fit just fine on the plane. Your carseat manual should say whether it's approved for air travel (which suggests it ought to fit) but Delta should have measurement guidelines you can then cross reference with your seat. I actually looked up our carseat brand and Southwest when we flew for confirmation from other parents that they'd brought it on planes of that airline without problems.

Security with all the stuff can be a bitch, but we just put on our best cute faces and said "We've never done this before, help us, please."

Fumes? I guess that's less invasive than having to unscrew caps. Josh wants to take our new (giant) Britax seat. I told him if he wants to carry that and a baby, he's welcome to. I'd rather take the infant seat, but since we won't have it on future flights, I guess we may as well go ahead and see how the Britax does.

Where are you going? When Fan went back to Hunan for the summer with Phoebe, we called and bitched enough that they gave Fan a bulkhead seat with a bassinet. There were only 4 designated spaces on the plane though, and different planes / seating configs have different arrangements, but it was definitely worth it on the 13 hour flight. In fact, she hated not having it on the 2.5 hour flight from New York to New Orleans.

She took a ton of powdered formula, pre-mixed liquid formula, baby food, etc on with her and they didn't say anything. She even managed to take a bigass tube of butt paste on with her.

Try it and see. Although the US customs at the Vancouver airport are notorious dicks, the security wasn't so bad.

We're flying to MS for Fake Thanksgiving weekend. We're actually leaving out of Seattle because it's $1,000 cheaper than flying out of Vancouver. The long flight is only 4 hours so I hope it won't be too bad. I can't imagine a 13 hour flight for ME much less with a baby.

When I flew to / from Malaysia last month, it was a 14 hour flight followed by another 8 hour flight. That sucked so bad that I wished I was on just the 13 hour flight with my grumpy ass daughter.
