When did you originally hear this?

And yeah, this is a considered a major classic Kenton album. And Kenton's band was uniquely progressive, intelligent and hip, especially for the 50s and 60s. He utilized a lot of fine arrangers over the years, some of the best in the big band world. Johnny Richards did the charts on this one (and I know nothing about him).

i had originally heard this in, like, 1998 when i was at the college. we did a stan kenton tribute concert and did like, 2 arrangements from this album. i remember borrowing the CD from someone, but gave it back rather quickly, and then a guy from my church taped it from vinyl to cassette for me, but you know. cassettes. :/ stan kenton's kinda nuts. i like it. :]

..and of course it's OH so topical now that you're heading toward West Side Story in your own life. :)

Shouldn't you come to NY itself to do additional research on this musical? :D
