“ So are you going to fill me and the Mrs in on what’s going on ?” Evan asked Ianto once Dilys and Donna were the other side of the kitchen and less likely to overhear.
At the questioning glance from their Welsh visitor Evan elaborated. “ As nice as it always is to see you, none of these checks has ever taken this long and that’s including when the Captain and I got reminiscing about Tefalaa.”
Ianto looked from where the ladies were finishing up back to their host sitting to his right. The latest update from Jack had been less than reassuring and the Welshman had been considering the options.
“ Let’s wait for the ladies to rejoin us,” responded Ianto giving a small, but what he hoped was a reassuring smile to Evan before giving his PDA another a quick check.
“ Did we miss something ?” Donna asked as she and Dilys returned to the table and resumed their seats. The Londoner had a feeling something had been said.
“ No, didn’t miss a thing.” Evan replied but added, “ Though I think Ianto might have something to tell us.”

“ OK, we know the name of what we’re looking for but do we know what it looks like ?” Martha asked as she and the Doctor re-joined Tosh and Jack outside of the ship. “ I assume both you Doctor, and Jack know what the Xa’lk look like but a description for Tosh and I would be helpful,” the medic added.
“ That could be a little harder than you might think.” The Doctor commented.
“ How so ?” Martha turned to face her former traveling companion.
“ Xa’lk isn’t the name of a particular race but of a group, an organisation, made up of numerous species from throughout the galaxies.” The Time Lord explained.
“ Great, so we don’t know what this Xa’lk looks like. What about the information you were going through on board ? Wasn’t there anything to identify it there ?” Martha asked the Gallifreyan.
“ Nothing.”
“ Well that’s helpful.” The medic remarked a little sarcastically.
“ So it could pass as human, look totally alien or be somewhere in between.” Tosh commented as she looked up from her PDA to the other three.
“ Basically, yes. Without knowing its species, or race within it, we don’t have a clue as to even basic visual recognition.” The Doctor confirmed.
“ So it’s going to be down to any residual readings it might be giving off that we can track, or any trails of interactions with the locals being our only ways of finding our visitor.” Tosh surmised, as her eyes returned to the PDA and her fingers began to tap away again.
“ Will you be able to trace it from any readings it might be giving off ?” Jack checked.
Tosh glanced up and gave the Captain her ‘Are you really asking me that ?’ look.
Putting his hands up in surrender Jack looked contrite. “ Sorry of course you can. Could you…?” he added, the corner of his mouth rising in a small grin as Tosh answered.
“ Already doing so.” The tech genius looked back up to the Immortal returning his slight smile with one of her own.

Ianto looked to their hosts gauging their reactions to what he had told them. The Welshman hadn’t gone into detail, it would have been against protocol to impart future information to that degree, but he had given the C’tylni broad basics; that the rift debris had been a ship containing a Bounty Hunter from the distant future who was looking for a thought to be missing C’tylni Royal and it hadn’t got the message that the Royal wasn’t missing and the bounty had been rescinded.
“ So this…” Dilys hesitated.
“ Xa’lk.” Ianto supplied.
“ Xa’lk thinks one of us is this missing Royal.” Dilys sounded slightly incredulous and looked to her husband who was looking equally surprised and puzzled.
“ It has been travelling around for a very long time and seems to be somewhat confused and clutching at straws at this point. If it was thinking rationally it would know that the point in time the rift took you is many centuries before the supposed incident and bounty posting, let alone the fact the bounty itself doesn’t exist anymore.” Ianto explained.
“ So what happens now ?” Evan asked looking to the Torchwood archivist while placing his hands over Dilys clasped ones on the table in front of her.
“ We keep you safe.” Donna replied with conviction.
“ What she said.” Ianto confirmed nodding towards the fiery Londoner noting the determined look on her face that reflected his own feelings on the matter.

“ Anything Tosh ?” Jack asked as the group turned and began to move away from the ship towards the area Tosh had picked up on the earlier scan.
“ I’ve got a strong reading on this path.”
“ Understandable.” The Doctor said matter-of-factly as they grew slowly nearer. “If it was setting up some sort of secondary base a track between the two would show up strongly.”
“ Any sign of defences ?” Jack checked with the Torchwood genius.
“ Nothing showing up at the moment, but...” Tosh replied.
“ Doesn’t mean there aren’t any,” Jack finished for her, “ so let’s…” his voice petered out as he watched The Doctor stride ahead. “…take it slow.” he finished before adding a louder, “Damn it Doctor !”
“ What ?” The Time Lord asked turning to look at the others some feet behind him, sonic in hand. “ It’s fine.” The Doctor turned back and continued on his path forward.
“ Jack there’s…” As Tosh began to speak there was a sound like a large twig snapping ahead of them and in an instant the Doctor was upside down around ten feet above the ground contained in an oval bubble that, with its occupant, quickly became invisible.
“ Famous last words.” Martha said as she, Jack and Tosh watched the over confident Time Lord be swept up and disappear.
“ Tosh ?” Jack looked from where he assumed the Doctor was still hoovering to his team mate.
“ The Doctor triggered a trap, obviously, looks like there is one more, six foot to the left and ten feet ahead. If he had waited a minute I was just about to warn him.” Tosh pointed out before continuing, “ I can disable both the traps and what appears to be more minor shielding around the area we are approaching.”
“ Still no life signs ?” the Captain checked before adding, when getting confirmation from Tosh, “ Go ahead and disable them.” Then he, along with the ladies, watched as a slightly rumpled Time Lord seemingly appeared from nowhere dropping in a heap to the ground.
