Glue glue glue

Does anyone know of a good fabric glue that is hella strong? I am really starting to loath Fabri-tac mostly because it shrinks over time and makes the fabric it is holding together wrinkle horribly ( Read more... )

Darn I used this stuff one time that was ultra strong... it practically bonded the leather together but I can't remember what it is for the life of me at the moment. Maybe Tandy has some recommendations?

leather weld is what you may be thinking of... you have to hold it together for about 10 minutes but there is no smell and kinda the consistency of elmers glue. tandy has it of corse.

with that being said, i REALLY do not like using adhesives on leather much (and i use leather a LOT!) and since you are using it on shoes/boots there is a lot of stress points that usually cause the glue to separate.

I may recomend hand stitching the pieces down, just buy a 4 prong awl, some waxed thread, and some leather stiching needles and you can get anything to stay together forever. but i would have to see what you are making to be sure...

as long at they are not on the top of the shoe where your toes bend you should be ok with leather weld (the black parts on my ocarina of time ganon's shoes are leather welded on). just make sure you are glueing leather to leather for the leather weld to do its thing.

Hot glue? Do you have something you just can't stitch?

Actually, since I've been pondering things like armor lately, I'll keep an eye for for responses on this too : )

In my opinion I hot glue is awful, I tend to use it only in emergencies at cons (sudden wardrobe malfunction). heheh

I used leather weld for part of my Pit and it held together fantastic. Which I wasn't expecting because like Shawn said, it's a lot like Elmer's glue! Just takes a long time to dry.
