Whosever room this is should be ashamed!
His underwear is hanging on the lamp.

- Shel Silverstein "Messy Room"

John took two steps into the lab, then stopped. Thought very seriously about turning tail and leaving, and never, ever coming up to the Science Division ever again. He'd walk up as far as the intersection to the main hallway that led to all the labs and offices, and he'd shout for whoever he needed, but he would not step foot down the hallway itself.

And he would certainly never go as far as entering Rodney and Radek's personal lab #3.

Why they needed three personal labs, he wasn't sure. But he wasn't going to ask and he was not going to come to #3 again, the one they claimed was their default place to work.

"Colonel?" Rodney's head popped out from behind a pile of...something. "Are you going to just stand there or are you going to come in and tell us what you're doing here?"

"Rodney, when you were five, did your mom ever make you clean up your room?" John tried not to gape.

"Of course, what does--" Rodney broke off and looked around. "I"ll have you know everything in this room is filed and stored exactly where it needs to be in order to be found again."

John raised an eyebrow, and Rodney glared back. Then he frowned, looked guilty, and shifted from one foot to the other and set down some twisted piece of something he'd been holding.

"All right, so Radek's the only one who knows where everything is. And if you do that I guarantee he's going to pout at you."

John took his hand away from the nearest stack, where he'd been about to rearrange things.

"I did explain how I'm the one in charge of him?" John asked, idly.

Rodney snorted. "Radek!"

There was nothing, then a clang, and a soft curse, then a few seconds later Radek crawled out from underneath a table. He stood up and looked around, blearily. He'd been sound asleep, and John remembered why he'd come down here in the first place.

Rodney said, "John was about to rearrange stack number 57epsilon."

Radek turned to him, eyes growing wide in shock. John gave Rodney the most vicious, you are in trouble and I mean *now*, mister, glare he had. Being human, Rodney just laughed at him.

John looked at Radek, who was pouting at him. John sighed. "Are you two done here, because it's either 3:30am, 0ƒ14, or 9:30cl, depending on who you ask, and there's this new thing we're trying out, which involves sleeping in your room, rather than in the labs."

Radek and Rodney looked at each other, had a conversation that involved mostly prepositions, interjections, hand gestures, shoulder shrugs, and looking at the piece of twisted metal Rodney had dropped. Then they both nodded, and Radek turned back to him -- and pouted again.

John frowned. "I'm not even touching it."

"It is obviously organised," Radek began. "How could you not--"

It was probably cheating, but John just leaned in an kissed him. When he stopped, the pout was quite gone. "Bed."

Radek nodded. "Bed."

"Hey!" Rodney said, and John looked over -- and saw Rodney pouting.

"Well, come on." John waved him over, and got his two scientists out the door with not quite as much trouble as it was to keep 20 Marines out of trouble on their first R&R in a year.

Five steps down the hall and Rodney and Radek were discussing ways they could make the gizmo do something interesting, and John thought that maybe he would just set up a cot in lab #3, and write a note on the wall that they were required to get three hours' sleep for every 25.

John sighed. "Dad never told me there'd be days like this."
