It's like I'm walking through glass, weaving strands of heather through the bottom of the ocean. Stippling stardust through the hallways and weeping for the lack of song.
I'm a huge destruction and a mass, a mess, a thoroughly despondent piece of wood.
I'm drunk, I'm stoned, I'm imploding, exploding, I'm one of these eyes and two of these hearts and there are five sets of hands and only one tongue. I can see me, us, them, sitting on the plateau and I'm flying above me, on the edge of the wing on the outside of the windscreen. I'm a fly on a plane and a bug in the grass and everything I see is around me and through me and--

Brian was bored. It was not just a slow night -- it was like everyone in the whole city was on their best behavior. If it were December, he'd blame it on everyone suddenly believing in Santa Claus.
He knew Menetti was bored, as well. It was one of those nights when he actually wished he wasn't a werewolf: it'd be easier if he could talk, he and Lou could pass the time with more than just grunts and growls and eye rolls.
He heard the vehicle drive up to where they were parked, could hear and smell everything about it that screamed NYPD cop car, so he stayed where he was, lying on his belly in the back of the K-9 unit.
It wasn't until the back door was unlocked and Maurice leapt in that Brian realised he was in trouble.

John came into their quarters, peeking through the doorway as though scouting out whether Carson was awake -- or grumpy. Carson gave him a tired smile hello, which John returned.
"I brought you something," John said, holding one hand behind his back as he walked over to where Carson was sitting, propped up with one leg in plaster and on wrist wrapped and resting in a sling.
"I'm hoping it's a new book," Carson told him. "I've gone through everything in our library--" He stopped as John brought the object out. "Oh. Oh."Am I the most wonderful, loving, attentive boyfriend you've ever had, or what?" John asked, smirking ( ... )

And thank you. No, it was not exactly what I expected, but it was great. Because, really, so much more realistic. And hard. *sniffles* Poor Jayne. Why is it that the best stories are always UST?
and by the way: Congratulations on how you get so many little details in such a short piece and still make it into one organic form. I love to read that.
