I do agree that TV writers are some of the worst -- part of it is that they don't take the time to reflect on continuity and part is that they try to write as people speak, sometimes undermining the ability of humans to manipulate the English language.
I adore B&S and have watched it from the middle of the first season, however when the story isn't focused on Kevin and Scottie (apparently there are writers assigned to each character/pairing on that show) the writing has diminished, IMO.
You know how I feel about DH. No Gale-no shadownyc. LOL
Here's a *hug* -- now read some good fanfic... or how about a good book (what's that again-LOL).
I feel better just for getting it out of my system. LOL.
I didn't know you watched B&S! Should we discuss it here? I mostly just like Kevin & Scottie too. Justin is just so DUMB, as is Rebecca. Robert & Kitty are dull and Nora is a bit much at times. I can't stand Tommy & hope they kill him off!
I like Justin too, but the character is dumb, dumb, dumb. And I couldn't believe Holly falling for Tommy's manipulations because he's not the brightest light in the forest either. And Rebecca, trying to look smart and like a grown-up. Pfffft.
At least "laying" is a real word! I know I have serious trouble with laying and lying. Also sit, set, sat. You sit down, you set the table, blah, blah... I just read those parts from the book when I am forced to teach English. I'm not arguing for perfection though, just an attempt to communicate in accordance with some basic guidelines.
I never liked The West Wing, but it was the subject matter more than anything. I play my DVDs on the computer, because I have never figured out how to attach the fancy new VCR/DVD thingy to the old TV.
I really should just go back to books and leave the new-fangled stuff to the young 'uns.
You did real good with that comment. Glad you is still in tact and don't feel aggravated. (<- commonly misused.) How about love of the comma? I read/grade papers in which it has replaced the period, or there may be almost no punctuation.
No, don't (give up the fight. Do keep hair and sanity.) I'm thinking of starting an organization: Save the Adverb. I usually get raised eyebrows when I suggest the addition of 'ly' or some other 'adverbial' comment.

Good for you for fighting the good fight. It's always a thankless task.
I am only watching B&S right now for Teh Nigel. Once he's gone, so am I. Meanwhile, I amuse myself by playing "Spot the QAF Storyline." Or dialogue. Or (as was the case last week) bad fanfic. What a waste of a good cast. The sad thing is that the writing was pretty good in season 1, even after Jon Robin Baitz got canned. I remember "Light the Lights," "The Valentine's Day Massacre" and "Game Night" fondly.
I was bitching to Stella the other day about DH's craptasm and she recced a good ep from last year, "Art isn't Easy." (It's from Hallowe'en '08.) And she was right: some wit and some hilarious stuff about the homeowners' association. But that's only one.

I agree with Xie about the writing on West Wing and The Wire. Plus, lots of in-jokes if you know the cities and the players.
And I can't be too mad with B&S. It was my gateway to QAF. I'd been hearing so much about B&S being a ripoff of QAF that I checked it out during the writers' strike. And I was hooked from "So, you're into leather?"

Yeah, über-newbie here. This fandom really saved my life last year, when I ended up homeschooling Clifford on 24 hours' notice. In 2000, I don't think I even knew there was a channel called Showtime; I was watching Discovery Health, PBS & Law & Order. So I did see Gale in L&O: CI in real time, and liked his performance, and assumed he was a NY stage actor, like most of their guesties. Then I saw Vanished but didn't realize Kelton = Dr. Lang. I usually excel at "Spot the Actor," but Gale does truly disappear into Dr. L. And Vanished was "meh," but Gale has that je ne sais quoi, especially in the scenes with the ex and the daughter.
Anyhoo, I check out QAF. I was so annoyed with Hal's V/O that I was about to bail - and I hadn't even seen the UK version yet: Craig Kelly is so brill - when "Yowza! It's That Guy from Vanished!" So it was a very back-assward way to get here, but here I am, and happy to be here.
And I think you'll really enjoy the golden age of Brothers & Sisters. Lots of memorable dialogue and good stories.

It's working its way into dictionaries as a "substandard" or "non-standard" spelling of all right. We are losing this battle!!!

I like Justin but Rebecca is becoming a plot device at this point.
I think after last night's show Robert & Kitty may get a little interesting -- keeping secrets will do that.
Tommy can't die until he get Ojai back, using Rebecca, the plot device. LOL

Lying.
That's one of my pet peeves (pun not only intended, but gloried in).
*pets you*
Ooops... did it again!
Should I just throw the TV out the window and save myself the aggravation?
I'm happy that way -- although actually I'd keep the TV because it makes the DVDs work.
You know show had stunning writing? West Wing. And although it was too dark and violent for me, The Wire was brilliantly written.
Ummmmm... that may be it.
