So I don't really do resolutions. That being said, I have bought a $130 pair of running shoes and begin running tonight. My goal is running the Army 10 Miler on 10/4/09. I have a 'training regimen' that will have me running a 10k in March (6.2 miles), which should leave me more than able to do 10 miles in October. I used to run a LOT and liked ( Read more... )

It's going to be a major time investment, but it's much better than a debilitating pork rind habit.

Awesome awesome awesome! You got it, girl!! I highly recommend the training regimen route--I did Hal Higdon's Novice Supreme marathon training, and even though I missed the 20-mile run, I did almost all of the other long runs, and I feel ready for the "big one" on Sunday.

I'm planning to run the ATM as well--it was so fun last year! It would be so cool to run it together!! If the_smith_e lets me train for another marathon next year, I might do MCM with you...although Baltimore's was pretty cool, at least the 1/3 I ran of it. :)

I'm so excited for you! I will be thinking of you for sure on Saturday :-)

We will have to compare notes sometime closer to the ATM to see if we are on pace with each other. My suspicion is that I'll be a little slower than you, but we could start out together! Hopefully the_smith_e lets you train for another marathon ;-)

Good luck on this. What about your past knee problems?

Meaning, how will you handle them, if you even need to?

Well the history of my knee is that I completely tore my ACL just under a year ago in a skiing incident. I had surgery in April 2008 to repair it. I don't really have a concrete plan for dealing with knee problems beyond resting the knee if it tells me it needs rest. Otherwise, a heating pad will be my friend.

You mention you're on a schedule for a 10K in March- do you have one picked out? If not, Richmond has a fantastic one (Monument 10K) on March 28th that Jessie & I are registered for (we start training today!). Apparently it's a great race, run through a beautiful part of the city, and is FLAT! If you're interested, we wouldn't mind hosting that weekend.

Good luck with the running!

Katie,

Good luck on following up on this. I suggest that you have a partner to run with so that you can't easily just leave it for another day. I know that this helps since Mary makes sure that I get to exercise when she picks me up for the gym or tennis almost every day. Also, remember that your Dad got his t rainint in for the marathons by having a group in his office training together.

Sorry about the typing, but it is har d to do with a cast on the hand and lower arm.

Grandpa Fred
