I once attended a course in a conference centre miles from anywhere - this was before I could drive, so I was stranded there for the week. Imagine my delight when on unpacking I discovered I'd forgotten to bring any change of socks or pants.

Every night I washed those I was wearing in the sink and put them on the radiator. Luckily it was winter, so they were thoroughly dry and aired in the morning.

One another course one morning I cut myself shaving. I ended up walking MILES to find a little chemist's where I could buy a styptic pencil. Nightmare.
