According to my latest measurements, I have 45 linear shelf space of books. And that doesn't account for the fact that many of the books are double-packed on my shelves. The amazing thing is that I've probably given away about half of that amount in the last year. And I could still weed away more. The books I absolutely cannot bear to part with ( Read more... )

I also have a ridiculous amount of books. I have also moved like three times in the past couple of years. Talk about the worst thing in the world to have to move--giant boxes full of heavy books ( ... )

There's a place in Baltimore called The Book Thing where you can donate books and they have a "store" except that everything is free. The provision is that you can't resell them. It's great, because I can take them as many books as I want, and I have found good stuff inside as well. I just dropped off three bags of books there for bbennett as well (although I did take two of her books for myself). This time around I gave away a lot of Russian-language textbooks and books on Peter the Great. Because really, how many books on Peter the Great does one need (I took a course in college on him...)? I still have two whole shelves of Russian-language books that I will probably never read again, because I've forgotten all my Russian, but I still have this faint idea that one day, I will pick it up again.

Hey, I like Judy Blume very much. It's just... best 100?

I'm so with you on the right author/wrong book thing!

You did better than me, I only read eight of those, and maybe saw one or two that I started.

If it's any comfort, I've only read six of them (Animal Farm, 1984 [didn't like it, and am not sure I finished], TKAM, LotF, LWW, and LotR [that only counts as one?!]), and doubt I recognize the titles of more than twenty or thirty.

(I've read All the President's Men, just not All the King's Men. Does that count?)

(If, only the other hand, somebody were to list the top 100 classical music titles since 1700, I'd do very well.)

And I was going to have said something sarcastic about their Judy Blume selection, but now I see that that's "one of your all-time favorites," so will keep comments to myself.... :-)
