Irritated at the costume industry.

4 stores, several nights. (Now, I know, if you want a costume, best is to do it yourself. My youngest daughter couldn't really brainstorm up something. Rachael, on the other hand, envisioned, and aquired all the bits for her pokemon trainer costume on her own. I was impressed ( Read more... )

Well, scary, we can do, but the school is prohibiting scary costumes due to the kindergarteners this year. Dani is very tomboy, and I'm sure, if she'd have thought about it ahead of time, we would have had an opportunity to do something really spiffy.. granted, she's 7, and just hadn't thought about what she wanted to be a whole lot. Rachael, at 10, had her costume planned and thought out completed over 2 weeks back. 8)

I totally agree, the best costumes are the ones you make yourself, but when you're down to the wire (her school parade/party is tomorrow, and you've been trying to find *anything* that meets the school rules, your options become limited)

Well, actually, we would have everything except a lab coat in her size.. i've got beakers and erlynmeyer flasks, and test tubes and such... She's got her mind made up on Supergirl for this year, but given she could cannibalize a good chunk of my stuff.. perhaps next year... Thanks! That's a good idea!

That's what I do/did too. If I didn't have something already in mind (I generally do), then I'd shop the boys stuff as well as the girls. Fortunately when *I* was growing up, there were a ton of cartoon characters easily purchased at KMart.

Fortunately, except for a clown costume, Ian always wore hand made stuff. As he got older, he came up with the strange stuff.

Unfortunately, as you get older, the pre-made costumes for women don't actually improve. You just add "slutty" to the front of the costume label and voila. :P

I noticed that.

there is apparently some requirement that if you're female, you can only use the same amount of fabric as a child costume, so they just get more and more revealing...
