Well. The last 48 hours has been memorable...

Sunny wanted to cuddle with me on the recliner. We were happily enjoying each other's company when she suddenly turned around and bit me on the hand and wrist. After 2 years of so much progress in recovering from her abusive first owner, over the last 2 months she'd been regressing a lot - lots of snarling at me, etc. and this was the last straw. We had her put down Thursday morning.

After crying over Sunny most of yesterday, today Flyer and I went to Beaumont TX for our first attempt at AKC Rally. I almost had a nervous breakdown before we started. Flyer was insisting she'd never heard words like "sit", "heel", or "around" before, despite her obedience titles from 2002 and all the classes we've had over the last year. However, when we went in, her memory suddenly improved. We ended up not only qualifying for our first Rally Novice leg (2 more needed for the RN title), we ended up with 3rd place in the Rally Novice B class!

We go back tomorrow to try for that second leg. Next weekend we'll try to get the 3rd leg. I think the secret was bribery: I told Flyer if she worked with me and qualified, I'd buy her a cheeseburger on the way home (and I kept my promise). I'm promising the same thing tomorrow!
