What a handsome dog. Looks in the pink of health, slim and muscular. And congratulations on her awards. I'm only familiar with labs in a general sort of way, but her head isn't as blocky as they ones I've seen in pictures. Do livers have a more streamlined head? I know for cocker spaniels, the difference between a show type and worker is quite distinct with the workers having a flatter head and higher set ears.

She's not a Lab. She's a Flat-Coated Retriever, and they are supposed to be more streamlined than Labs, and the head is quite different. Like Labs, Flat-Coats are very friendly and social, and do well in multiple dog sports. Kaylee already has Rally and Flyball titles; we go into the Obedience ring next week for the first time, and she's training for Agility competition as well.

I went looking just after I'd posted and discovered, oh yes, should read more carefully. Not a lab. Very handsome dogs Flat-coated retrievers and by the sound of it, lovely natures. Come to think of it, I saw one on the local ferry about 18 months ago. The dog was so strikingly beautiful, I started talking to the owner and I think that's what he said it was.

I love all the Retriever breeds, but Flat-Coats won my heart 20 years ago. They really do have "lovely natures". Everybody they meet is their new best friend. Wrong if you want a guard dog, but perfect for a friend and companion.

Thank you! I certainly think so, but I'm just a little biased on the subject. :-)

She IS a beauty queen!!! She looks like the sweetie I know she is, with perhaps a pinch of devilshness for fun?

More than a touch of devilishness! Her nickname is Wild Child. She is totally obsessed with toys and tennis balls and CANNOT think in the presence of either. This is a problem in Rally; they have a fiendish exercise called the Offset Figure 8. Advanced and Excellent Rally are done off lead, and this exercise requires heeling a figure 8 around bowls of food and toys. My only hope of getting her RA and RE is to enter and then declare her absent if the Evil Exercise is in the course.

In obedience we are still limited to single ring trials because if Open is happening in the next ring, she'll hop the ring gate when they throw the dumb bell. Anything thrown Must Be Retrieved by Kaylee. She's only 2 1/2, so hopefully we'll be able to get her to focus more on me, but not yet! I'm hampered by the residual stroke damage. If I moved faster I'd be better able to retain her attention, but my leg won't allow that.
