OH. That's all I can say immediately after this section. Just...Oh. I loveee that you've written in ~AU S3 territory.
I have to say what made me want to SOB was Matthew in the snow at Christmas, STILL struggling with the war. It rings so true and it's so heartbreaking, and have I mentioned that I ADORE that you've written this all around him? Because I'll say it again...I LOVE IT. December 1930 is def my favorite in this section. Not to mention Mary KNOWING the look in his eyes when it starts to happen, and the way she comforts him...I JUST WANT TO WRAP THEM BOTH UP AND HUG THEM TIGHTLY.
AND THE DREADED PASSING OF ROBERT. As much as he kind of wasn't the greatest last season, it's still so hard to imagine the show without him! You've done such a great job of describing his passing here, and most especially the way that Mary loved him and how Matthew is trying to keep her spirits up. "It wouldn't do for the Earl to kiss a girl in black" IS SO MARY I CAN'T. <3 I hope we get to see how it plays in the show too!
HAHA I AM SO CRUEL TO HAVE DONE THAT. Like I said, I just cannot get over writing war!Matthew, because there is so much that must be going on in his mind, and I imagine that tiny things would trigger those memories. SOBBING.
ROBERT. IDEK. I sort of want him to die in the show so that M/M can take over and start pulling Downton into the modern world, but also the show would be weird without him, so...
