That's the best part - my coworker had a pluot, and she kept saying it should be called a plumcot. So I was intrigued, and went down to purchase my own, and came up with the same fruit, labelled a plumcot. apparently manufactured in the US by...wait for it... flavorsafari.com sigh.
AHA! Turns out that "pluot" is a trade name, like Kleenex. "Plumcot" is the generic name of the hybrid fruit. Curiously, the same (genetics) organization that has trademarked "pluot" (and the specific genetic combination that produces it) has also trademarked "aprium" -- a slightly different combo of plum and apricot genetical soup. And also? PEACOTUM.
