1) What are three places you are dying to visit, and why?

2) What is the favorite place you have visited, and why? (no reasons that are sentimental, aka I got engaged there, etc...I want a reason why you would recommend this place to someone else...)

QUESTION #1:

1.) Spain - Wine and Olive oil and beaches, cool Catholic churches and FOOD. Plus, I want to see how much of the language I can use.

2.) Argentina - it's on a continent I haven't been too, it's huge, it's dollar-friendly, buenos Aries sounds like a great city.

3.) Thailand - another place where the dollar stretches and there is so much to see and do.

QUESTION #2:

STACY, GO TO CROATIA. It has everything you want in a European vacation place: Great wine/restaurants, really cool old stuff, insane war stories, beautiful green spaces, (rocky) beaches... but no huge crowds, and very affordable. I felt like Matt and I had discovered a real gem when we went.

1. Istanbul -- because I study it, and it seems like it'll be amazing.
Israel -- mixture of history and party, plus my closest friend from grad school, and I study it.
A beachhouse, somewhere, near the beach. Right near the beach. On the beach.

2. The Peloponnese. Rent a car, drive around. Beautiful beaches, great food, good wine, beautiful scenery. And the people are lovely.

1) Peru, and specifically Machu Picchu. Jen and I have been to the Pyramids, the Valley of the Kings, Tibet and the Great Wall, and Machu Picchu is right up there in the Wonders list.

2) One of the Eastern Europe/Western former Soviet Bloc nations - my grandfather's from Poland (and his family was all from Poland/Ukraine), as is half of Jen's family, so I feel like we should check out the homeland.

3) The summit of Kilimanjaro or Aconcagua. I want to climb one of the Seven Summits in my lifetime, and those are the only two without much in the way of serious, technical climbing. There is Mount Kosciuszko in Australia, but it's in the wussy version of the Seven, so I'm throwing it out. Everest would be awesome, but I don't have the $60-80K and the death wish to try it.

As for my favorite? Tibet, hands down. It's otherworldly, and feels unlike any other place I've been. Walking around the Barkhor, exploring the Potala, seeing hundreds of monks debating in the Sera Monastery courtyard... hell, just the Tibetan people, who have a such a ( ... )
