[ CHARACTER INFORMATION ]
Name: Zuse (aka: Castor)
Age: appears late 30s
Gender: male Program
Fandom: Tron: Legacy
Timeline: post-movie ending, derezzed
History:
http://tron.wikia.com/wiki/Castor--Many cycles ago, a low-priority actuarial algorithm called Zuse was created by Kevin Flynn as an interpretation Program and placed into an isolated computer system known as the Grid. Left on his own, this Program quickly and naturally exceeded his original directive, expanding his capabilities far beyond his creator’s initial intent. He developed his own unique personality, complimenting that function. Using his natural talent to ease communication between Programs, Zuse became the "lubricant that greases the rusted gears of our digital society", a key intermediary among his fellow Programs. He established an extremely successful nightclub that specialized in music and socialization, providing a gathering place where a Program could find anything it wanted. (There were also rumours suggesting Zuse was a key figure in the black market trade of discontinued modifications and false documentation, using the club as the location where he brokered all of his deals. Anything a Program could want, indeed.) The "
End of Line" was a safe haven for all inhabitants of the Grid: Programs (electronic beings created by Users), isomorphic algorithms (ISOs: Programs who are self-generated), and the occasional User (a human who operates a computer in the real world and their digital representation within the Grid). All were welcome. Any favour or grievance heard.
--The peace ended when the original "End of Line" was attacked by a carrier ship called the Regulator, a warship lead by CLU 2 (an artificial intelligence Program also created by Flynn) on a mission to destroy the ISOs. Zuse and a few others were able to escape, but the attack signified the beginning of the end - a brutal genocide of the ISOs called the Great Purge. Because he was a Program sympathetic to the ISOs, Zuse went underground, hiding amongst the underworld contacts he'd established.
--Some time after, Zuse reemerged. He took the name "Castor" to protect his true identity, even going so far as to forge a false identity disc so those who did not know him on-sight would not discover the truth. The End of Line was repaired and resumed its prior function as THE place to be in the city. Only this time, Castor was in charge, posing as the middle-man between the general public and the elusive, infamous Zuse.
--When Sam Flynn showed himself in the nightclub looking for Zuse, Castor immediately recognized this User as the son of the creator and escorted Sam to his private lounge to conduct business. There, he revealed himself as Zuse and offered to help Sam disguise his identity and escape from CLU's manhunt. However, they were interrupted by an attack from the Black Guards, revealing Castor's duplicitous connection with CLU, having betrayed Sam's location the moment he arrived at End of Line. A battle between the two sides broke out (in which Zuse promptly got out of the way and did not participate). Sam escaped, but not before the Black Guard stole the identity disc of Kevin Flynn, the creator. Castor struck the Guard with a shot from his cane, derezzing him and attaining the ident disc for himself. Gaining control of the disc had been Castor's intention from the beginning, to use it as a bargaining piece. Afterwards, Castor met with CLU for the exchange. The deal was to give Castor complete control of TRON City in exchange for Flynn's identity disc. But the actuarial Program, a master in considering "all the angles", was betrayed. CLU took the disc while his Black Guards placed light grenades around the nightclub. When they exploded, it sent out a powerful burst of energy that derezzed any code or Programs within the blast. The End of Line was destroyed entirely, along with its proprietor.
Character Personality:
--The first thing to notice about Zuse is his flamboyant and energetic personality. Everything about his body language and his speech is deliberate and over the top. He also typically wears white instead of the black that most other Programs do. Zuse is in the business of entertainment, and he embraces it fully with his entire external demeanor, playing the part he's expected to and enjoying it all along the way. This aspect of himself was not a part of his original translation programming, but rather something he developed on his own to smooth transactions. Although he's flamboyant by nature, under the guise of "Castor" he takes it up a notch. He develops a smoke and mirrors display to distract from his real identity and his real intentions. This sort of theatrical attitude may lead others to perceive him as comical or harmless, but being underestimated is one of the survival skills he's developed to keep from attracting too much of the wrong sort of attention.
--Zuse prides himself on paying careful attention to all the percentages and identifying "all the angles". He enjoys seeing things for the way they are, piecing the larger puzzle back together piece-by-piece as he collects it. It's out of habit that he stores every new thing he learns away, just in case it becomes useful later. He brokers for truths and for untruths, and this superior knowledge of the goings-on in the Grid are what make Zuse unique among Programs.
--Because Zuse is in the business of having all the information, when faced with information he doesn't know, he becomes insatiably curious as a result. The search for data and information drives him. He hides this curiosity well because he uses his charm to spin the situation so people want to give him the information he seeks. They volunteer it while thinking it was their own idea to do so.
--With this attitude comes confidence. Every move he makes is certain, deliberate. After taking every possible variable into consideration, assessing "all the angles", Zuse acts with absolute conviction that his actions will bring about the desired outcome. He is so sure in his decisions that, even if he is mistaken, his confident attitude never wavers, leaving others off-balance and thinking that he knows something they don't. When he starts to lose (which doesn't happen to him often due to his superior knowledge of the goings-on in the Grid), Zuse smiles widely and presents his case from a different angle. He will always try to twist things around in his favour, because he's certain that the information he's gathered has been interpreted correctly and the desirable outcome calculated to within an acceptable margin of error.
--Zuse's original directives focus almost exclusively on forming and maintaining communication between various Programs, especially when he works as an intermediary in those areas that are not entirely compatible. As an extrapolation of that programming, he is very social to those from all walks of life. Any Program, no matter how small or large, may end up being the beneficiary of Zuse's attention.
--However, seemingly contrary to this, Zuse's attitude towards non-Programs changed around the time he assumed the pseudonym "Castor". Initially, Zuse was completely open to all inhabitants of TRON City. Like the first End of Line club, he was hospitable to and supportive of not only Programs, but the ISOs and the Users as well. Zuse may not have gone as far as saying they were "friends", but they were welcome in his club and free to petition his aid. He would do all he could for them as if they were Programs like himself. After the Purge, Zuse lost faith in the Users because (he assumed) all the ISOs were slaughtered, unable to be protected by those who had sworn to do so. Zuse began to feel enmity toward the Users for the loss, and although most Programs viewed Users as gods, he could no longer deify them. This was an epiphony that shifted Zuse's whole paradigm. From then on, instead of performing his functions with a more selfless motivation, he now only helped other Programs either to benefit himself or on a selfish whim. He even involved himself in a plot with CLU against the very creator of the Grid with the goal of obtaining control over the entire TRON City. If CLU's plans worked, the city would need a new leader, and who better than Zuse, the socially-adept Program capable of doing nearly anything he set his mind to. It was not the temptation of pure power over the city that held Zuse's interest, but the expansion of his influence to every Program the city contained. All of the information in the Grid would pass through Zuse at the apex of the city, and he would see every iteration uncontested.
Character Abilities:
--Zuse's greatest ability is in him down to the core of his programming. Not only can his algorithmic mind analyse at impossible speeds, it has to in order to keep up with all of the facts and figures he holds in his head. Every bit of data that he comes across, he stores for use later, no matter how large or small. His talent lies in figuring out a myriad of possibilities for every possible situation and analysing the best course of action.
--While only Users can create other Programs, Programs within the Grid can construct their surroundings. Zuse is particularly adept in this. He built (and rebuilt) the End of Line club and his personal quarters as well.
--Zuse is an interpreter Program, giving him the skill to move comfortably through many types of social interactions, even facilitating understanding between multiple parties when needed.
--As a bonus, while he is not an expert, Zuse has operator-class privileges in Light Cycle operation. And according to the Grid's standards, he mixes a mean cocktail.
Character Weaknesses:
--Zuse is not a fighter and abhors being directly involved in physical conflict. His body seems rather frail from not much physical activity, and he has absolutely zero combat interest ability other than firing the light gun that's hidden in his cane.
--Zuse knows that the Users' world (the "real world" ) exists, but he has no first-hand knowledge of it. This is the largest information gap in his processes, but while he is on the Grid, it is of no serious consequence.
--Even with his primary function defined as taking into account all the angles to determine the proper course of action, Zuse finds himself on the wrong side of at least two major altercations. The first when he allied himself with the ISOs and his club was blown up for his efforts. The second when he placed himself in a dangerous gamble and assumed CLU would keep his side of the bargain. The second misstep was the one that finally got him derezzed.
[ SOUL CAMPAIGN SECTION ]
What are the abilities that your character will retain in Soul Campaign?
--Thankfully, due to his quick mind for processing information, Zuse is a fast learner. This is particularly useful in the more mundane matters that occur in the User world that he's not used to seeing and doesn't instinctively know how to deal with.
--Zuse's programming aptitude in the Grid translates into the real world. He will need to acquire the technical skills that separate Programs from Users, but once he's gotten the hang of it, watch out Death City!
--While it will take him a little time to learn the "lingo" of the User realm, he still adapts quickly in social situations, following along in a conversation and learning from dialogue clues as it goes until he is familiar enough with User customs in order to fit in.
What are the weaknesses that your character will lose or gain in Soul Campaign?
--Zuse's physical body is still weak and unsuited for combat. But his problems with the body do not begin there with simple lack of strength. Created as an electronic being, Zuse doesn't know the first thing about being in a human body. Normal, everyday things such as food and drink, sleep and cleanliness will have to be learned. Zuse does not consider himself human, despite physical evidence to the contrary. Even after becoming familiar with the needs of the different body, Zuse still thinks like a program. He will need to explore in great detail the "User functions" to which he now has access.
--Zuse's penchant for wanting to see "all the angles" works fine on a finite, isolated system like the Grid. Faced with the reality of the User world, there is simply too much information for him to process. (There is also the Network to explore, another isolated system with a completely different function than what Zuse is familiar with.) The User world is imperfect and largely unpredictable, so even the knowledge Zuse does gather will not provide him with results like he's used to in the Grid. It won't keep him from trying, but that line of thinking is doomed to failure in a large percentage of times.
Keeping the game’s premise in mind, please give us a brief explanation of your plans for your character in Soul Campaign.
Zuse is looking to experience existence after derezz... a real life as a User function instead of a dead, obsolete Program. Maybe he was given this chance so he could restore his faith in the Users once again... but who knows the real will of Brew?
[ WEAPON ONLY SECTION ]
Why your character should be a Weapon:
Disguised behind the very public face of "Castor", Zuse does not enjoy a direct approach. He does not operate overtly or with much force of his own power, preferring to manipulate from behind the scenes until the pieces are all in place for the final reveal. He plays all the angles so he can best get his target to the point they need to be for optimal operation. In the end, Zuse is a Program created by the Users for this purpose. He is an intermediary, an interpreter, a Program designed to facilitate other Programs in their duties. His manipulation is merely a means to an end for his Primary Function. He is not aggressive enough nor proactive enough to take direct control of another, but he allows himself to be used by others to further both his and their own goals.
What is your character's Weapon form?:
http://tron.wikia.com/wiki/Cane"Castor's Cane is a luminescent blue walking cane with a rounded grip on the top end. A hidden feature of the cane is its concealed gun weapon. The cane is capable of firing numerous high velocity light blasts in an automatic repeater fashion. These shots are damaging, at least to the point where they can harm objects and seriously maim a Program. A single-shot blast, which may result from an alternate fire mode, is capable of derezzing a Program with a direct hit at close range."
Weapon abilities
---lvl 0: Flashlight. A beam of harmless light (powered by soul wavelength) shines from either end of the cane. Used to illuminate the dark or briefly blind an opponent. Duration is based on resonation but is negligible due to the weakness of the ability.
---lvl 1: Single-burst. A burst of energy formed by soul wavelength that causes projectile damage to an opponent. Low resonation forms a small diameter burst (about the size of a grape), while high resonation forms a larger diameter burst (about the size of a grapefruit). The more souls collected shortens the time between shots: longest is approximately 3 minutes, shortest is 45 seconds.
---lvl 2: Shotgun. A scattered shot designed to stun or knock the wind from an opponent Resonation determines the force of the impact. The more souls collected shortens the time between shots: longest is approximately 7 minutes, shortest is 3 minutes.
---lvl 3: Automatic-Repeater. Similar to the single-burst, but can now fire multiple shots with barely a second delay between them. Low resonation causes only two shots to fire rapidly, while high resonation can allow up to 10 shots in rapid succession. The more souls collected shortens the time between shots: longest is approximately 2 seconds, shortest is 0.25 seconds.

Third Person:
He really should have seen it coming. He really should. The percentages did add up to that very likely conclusion, but by Zuse's calculation, his usefulness should have been enough to withstand betrayal by CLU in the end. Zuse didn't realize how wrong he was until CLU was already standing in front of him. CLU's ruthlessness was well-known. Zuse had seen it first-hand on several occasions. Truly, why would a vicious A.I. who tried to kill their Creator even blink when it came to killing a mere nightclub owner? Well. Not "mere". But now was really not the time for ego.
As the light grenades primed to explode, all his facts and figures flew from Zuse's mind in the face of his imminent deresolution. All he could manage was to stand there, drink in hand, as the End of Line club erupted in a flash of white light. He didn't close his eyes against the blast, watching all his work crumble around him in an instant.
After that, there was darkness. For a moment, Zuse was confused how he could perceive the darkness if he was supposed to be derezzed. Cautiously, he opened one eye that he hadn't remembered shutting... and then the other. Where he was now was still very dark, lit by a strange light completely unlike the luminescent glow on the Grid. For a moment, it didn't make any sense. There was nowhere in the Grid like this-- and then it hit him. Could it be? Could he really be looking at--?
When the red-haired man appeared on the screen, Zuse was quiet, absorbing all the information he was being told. Words like "witches" and "Shinigami" and "BREW" meant nothing even to the interpretation program, but he puzzled out the general situation from the context. Even though he held onto the words, what occupied most of Zuse's thoughts was this:
"I'm in the User's world. I'm off the Grid."
