Do you think that it is innapropriate for a male professor to stay after class with a female student having discussions about life/other subjects?

That's tricky. It depends on what is being discussed. He could just be a nice guy. Or he wants some booty. It's hard to tell sometimes. A very fine line there.

Trust your heart? That's what I'd say I guess.

I've had two (married) professors I've started staying after and talking with. I've had multiple people tell me its inappropriate. it pisses me off because obviously nothing is happening, and secondly I'm a consenting adult... if anything was happening it'd be between me and him. I'm not a teenager at the mercy of my highschool english teacher.

Nothing inappropriate at all. I spend hours at a time in my profs' offices talking about everything from politics to sports to the course curriculum. I go out to lunch with one of my profs pretty regularly. And yeah, I'm male, and most of them are male, but still, I'm far from the only person to do so; there are girls who do it too.

Thats how I see it. Even one of my group mates says that she worries I'm getting too cozy but doesn't want to say anything b/c she thinks it'll help our grade.
