Thanks for the comment. I guess the future has never seemed as near and threatening as it does now, with college and all on the horizon. Hopefully I'll have a better sense of direction once the application frenzy ends.

Happy Thanksgiving! We haven't talked for quite a while - I hope you are doing well.

I've already applied for Early Action at Stanford, and I find out if i get in on December 15th. I'm also planning to apply to UW, Yale, U Penn, Harvard, Princeton, MIT, Wash U in St. Louis, and U Chicago. I haven't written any of the essays for those other schools, though, and I only have a month to do that...so I might end up not applying to all of them.

It's good that you're thinking about all this ahead of time. It really helps to finish all the college essays before senior year starts (which I didn't do, even though everyone told me to). Do you know what you want to do or where you want to apply?

i think everyone goes through this phase, and it's tough as hell. as for the piano and violin, don't quit. I played cello for soo sooo long then gave up and almost every day i do regret it. after a while it really becomes a part of you. Everyone wants answers and perfection, everyone feels like they are drowning and can't support themselves. this will pass and you'll overcome it. Right now though you need to relax and just ride the bad times out.

Yeah... right now is college app time for me, and I have been questioning whether I am committed enough to continue with music in college. I've really dropped the ball on practicing, and my parents feel that spending for lessons is becoming a waste of their money. Then, without lessons, I might completely abandon the instrument(s), which I don't really want to do... but since I don't practice anyway...

Well, I just need to think about these things for a while. Thanks for the comment. It's nice to hear from you again. Happy Thanksgiving!

HAPPY THANKSGIVIN GANGSTA!
i'm just saying from personal experiance, money and time put aside, i miss it a lot. Maybe if you took a break from lessons and just pushed yourself for a little personal ractice each week you'd feel better about it and you could progress at your own pace then pick back up with lessons in a month or so? For a long time i felt really no personal motivation, there wasn't enough time and on and on, but as soon as i decided to quit i was like 'oh my god what have i done!' and by that point, for me, it was too late to go back.

Yeah, I saw my old piano teacher yesterday. She taught me when I was a tiny little kid and she talked to me for half an hour telling me not to quit. I think I should just stop with the hard pieces and competitions, and play something that I can enjoy more and not worry about all the time. I know that if I quit, I'll regret it.

None of us can really take care of life ourselves... should we really be expected to? I'm sure that even the most able of men recieve help from others. I do. You do. We all do; we all will continue to ( ... )

Thanks for the kind words. They do help. You are right about the wanting/not wanting...there is more to it than just my laziness. I've never really tried taking a clean break from competitions before, so I will see how things turn out. I wonder if I'll actually be more eager to just sit down on the piano bench and play for a little bit each day.

I'll probably see you in the winter or next year in the summer.

Well, I wish you good luck with it. Hopefully you'll be able to find some way to find compromise between the two. Quiting is never nice, but reality's a bitch too. And you may be right; I went back last summer without my cello, and after I came back here, I ended up practicing for hours on end because I had really missed playing it.

Looks like it's been a while since you wrote this. Found any direction/inspiration yet?
