Title: Dancing with flames, part 1
Rating: M for NC-17
Words: 1022
Summary: People grow. People change. Priorities and tastes change. Katara changed. She now wants what she shouldn't want. When water dances to the rhythm of fire good things happen
The fire danced in the night like a woman dancing for her lover. The fire was crackling, the firewood bursting with the immense heat of the flames. The air was filled with a hot fog coming of the immense redness that was heating their bodies. Katara was dancing with Aang. The world had changed. There was no longer war or an overbearing malice coming from the people. She had changed. Both physically and mentally. She had grown in height and her body had become curvier. She was no longer with Aang. Time had driven them apart. They had grown into different paths. Yet they were the best of friends. He had been her first everything and she would always love him. Of course everyone else had also changed. Sokka was taller, manlier, and wiser. But he hadn’t stopped being Sokka. He and Suki had given a great step and married. Now they were just living life, not thinking of kids, responsibilities and settling down somewhere. They were seeing the world, breathing in knowledge. Aang, her former boyfriend and very much to date Avatar had also been travelling the world. He was learning bending to its core, becoming all he had to be. It was a lonely journey but it was his and that sufficed him. He kept in touch sending Katara gifts and tips for her own bending as how to increase or decrease fertility with her bending. Toph had gone back home. Her parents had missed her dearly and even if, at first they were angry at the young woman for running away they soon forgave her. Yet little changed and the waterbender knew, that deep down inside, the blind (now) woman was grateful for it. Zuko also had changed. His temper didn’t burst as before. He was calmer but he still was the firebender she had once known. He was taller, his lustrous hair longer, shoulder length, his features manlier, his body more defined and awkwardly gentler than she remembered. Yes, they were all there at Ember Island for a well deserved rest. Aang was the Avatar, Zuko was the Fire Lord and they were the ones that were in deeper need of such assistance. But she was an ambassador for the Southern Water Tribe, and between rebuilding and teaching back home, she had also to teach and rebuild in the various factions around the world. It tired her deeply but she was strong. And it was worth it. So many babies had been born in her tribe. So many smiles, so much innocence, so much hope. They would never know war and she was happy for it. And her happiness show as she and the 17 year old airbender danced around the fire with Sokka and Suki as the firebender and earthbender sat either chatting or watching. Her bosom weaved with lack of air as she sat down, sweat dripping from her face. Her clothing was stuck to her skin but she didn’t mind. She was happy.
The former prince eyed her through the flames, smiling at her as her eyes set on him. She smiled back.
“Man, this is being the best vacation ever!” The bald man chimed, looking around, the smell of the sea filling his nostrils.
Sokka nodded. “I hadn’t been in the Fire Nation since I don’t know when.”
“We should explore the beach! So many new things have been built here.” Suki added with wonder. Everyone except Katara nodded.
“I’m a little tired. Would you guys mind if I just sat here?” She smiled and after a few disappointing grunts they nodded, getting up.
“I’ll keep her company!” If she hadn’t known he was a good man, his voice would have made her cringe. It was cold, probably form dealing with all those pseudo-usurpers. Aang raised an eyebrow as Toph smirk.
“Sure thing sparks. You two behave now!” There was mockery in her words but none of them paid any attention.
As the group left their sight, Zuko sat closer.
“You have been practicing.” She eyed him, not knowing what he was talking about.
“Hm?”
“Your dancing. You’ve been practicing.” She blushed. Had he been paying that much attention to her?
“Oh yeah! I get invited to a lot of parties!” She made a face but laughed quietly. It still filled the silence and for a moment, as the flames were attacked by the breeze, the Fire Lord felt a chill down his spine.
She looked at him, eyes curious and he instinctively moved closer.
“I’m over my marrying age!” He moved back, taken by her words.
“What?” She smiled at his confused look.
“I’m over my marrying age and I’m still single. No man wants a woman as busy as me.” She smiled looking up at the starry sky. “Not that I mind. I still feel I’m too young to marry. But I’m a normal woman, with needs and feelings. And eyes!” The waterbender watched him shift from the corner of her eye.
“And I’m not dumb. Not anymore anyway. I’ve changed. I’ve grown, and I now know exactly what I want. But I can also read other people’s body language.”
“Where is this taking us?” Zuko felt something hit the side of his head but ignored it. Katara was going in a dangerous direction but he was her friend and not wanting to hear would be rude.
“The thing is, there’s this guy, which I love with all my heart that wants me. And even though I’m not ready for something long term with that other guy I want him too. But if I get involved I may not be able to leave.”
He looked at the fire then back at her. “Katara you should take a chance. There’s no point in spending the rest of your life thinking about the what if’s!”
“When did you get so wise?”
He smiled. “Uncle told me this when I felt it was time to break up with Mai.”
She nodded and got closer to him. In a second she had her hands on both sides of his face and her lips were upon his.
Part 2 will come quickly(I hope)
I actually always thought that one of the sexiest things on Earth was a woman dancing to the rhythm of a fire. And a beach under the moonlight and starlight. After this is finished maybe I'll bring art*ponders* Still don't know.
