Dumbledore seems oddly ready to put Harry in danger or in situations where he's got no choice but to take matters into his own hands. In one book, maybe two, it wouldn't be worth mentioning, at least not too much, but over the course of six...

You've got to add in Harry's personality into this. He does have the hero complex Hermione accuses him of in OOTP, after all. :)

And I think some of it falls into simple, human mistakes. All right, in PS/SS, it does seem like Dumbledore is going out of his way to make sure Harry handles it himself (to the point where he takes off), but a lot of the time I think it falls out of his hands anyway. In CoS, Dumbledore was suspended, so Harry couldn't tell about the basilik, etc. In PoA, Dumbledore had nothing really to do with until the Time Turner part came up (and I think that was more of a case he couldn't do it himself.) In GoF, he admits that he didn't know Moody was an imposter until after Harry came back with Cedric's body. In OOTP, he'd spent the entire year avoiding Harry, so ( ... )
