I had to get a loan but with a dependent backround through PC. Does your school have special loans that are set up within the school??

You should go to www.fafsa.ed.gov and check out that stuff... You basically apply for a grant and if you aren't awarded then if your school has a loan program they'll send you info on getting a loan. That's what I had to do and the interest rate is pretty awesome.. in the paper work it says that the interest can't be any higher than 8.something% You have to have your parents info though but hey, its a start!

I filed through FAFSA and ended up getting a pell grant and a subsidized federal loan. Because I was an independent student (which is just that my parents didn't claim me and I was paying for school) I also qualified for an unsubsidized federal loan. When you apply for the fafsa, put your school's code and they will get your information and make up the loan package for you. Sometimes you can go through the banks and get loans through them (I believe it's Sallie Mae that is the lender for the loan that my bank used). My sister did that and I think she applied online for that. Hope that helped some.

oh that's cool. yeah i'm an independant student as well, lol i haven't lived with the parents for like four or five years now. it's been awhile. and i already did the fafsa stuff, and the school sent me a bunch of loan applications. i guess i'm just nervous, because my credit is so shady and stuff. ugh. man i want to go to school so bad, haha being a grown up with a stupid crappy job is no fun. :( lol

My credit was so crappy too. The federal loans/pell grant go solely on need and do not require credit checks. Sallie Mae doesn't either. It's the only way I could have finished.
