writing

so i've been thinking a lot about writing lately. (i know it's kind of a ludicris idea right now, as i average about three hours of sleep a day, after school and work. but i still think about it.) specifically, i've been thinking about original writing, so i guess i'm directing this post to those of you who've done original work ( Read more... )

Not mad incoherent at all, I come up with that kind of writer's block all of the time. I have all kinds of ideas for a book or movie that's incredibly original, but I can never put them together into something really coherent. It's really difficult, maybe that's why only a small percentage of writers actually are successful.

I'm going to share with you something I've learned in my years as a writer: There is nothing original. Don't be afraid that you're copying something else, or else you won't write anything ( ... )

I have a couple of suggestions -- remember -- YMMV.

When you have the time, sit somewhere quiet. Hold yourself open and in readiness. Then start asking yourself questions, like, "What am I really interested in at this time?" "What is holding my fascination?" "What sorts of questions am I asking myself right now?"

Unsurprisingly, a lot of the things I'm currently exploring have to do with love, the losing, finding, regaining, spoiling of it. Characters who have these problems with love keep showing up.

I'm using a book called, "A Writer's Book of Days." It contains writing prompts -- one for every day of a year. I do a 30-minute timed writing based on a prompt every day. Prompts like, "There was music in the background," and "This is what women know of love," and "Write about your father's hands." You might try something like that as well to help jumpstart your brain.

Oh good! <3 Studio work? For what again? Sorry.. I'm kinda loose ended nowadays..

Everythings going great! Well sorta. haha. I think I'm going to be quitting school soon.. It's just so hard. I'm really burnt out and I'm going to go crazy! lol! Lets see.. what's been going on... I've been really into the local scene. I <3 The Cover Up and Seconds To Breathe! Um, I got a new job at a daycare too! I love it there so much! Except within my first 2 weeks of working there I got really sick with strep bc an infant that I was caring for was sick and I had no idea. :( But now I love him. He's so cute! His name is Gabriel and he's "my baby" there. lol.

a recording studio, i'm going to school for record production.

yeah dude it sucks dropping out kind of, just 'cause like for me a lot of people didn't think it was a good idea or whatever, but it helped me get a lot more grounded and stuff, and really figure out what i wanted to do with my life. getting into the scene is awesome, there is some great talent in phoenix! and that's great that you have an awesome job. :D
