1. I have a recording of that, I can let you borrow it. 2. If this "Lucas" said that honestly, he rocks my world. 3. That isn't to say that you don't rock my world. You know you do, Momo. It's a universally accepted rule. 4. The octet rules. Psh to Oliver mentioning that it's overplayed. Who cares? It's good stuff.
1. I FRIGGIN NEED IT. I have the MIDI, which is quite lame. 2. No, he was being sarcastic lol. But the sarcasm effect was just so awesome. (Also because I asked him this randomly in our conversation...) 3. I know. It's hard rocking the world. It's so heavy (no pun intended...if you caught that). 4. I have no memory of Oliver saying that, so I'll just pretend you didn't say that.
1. MIDIs are never too nice. 2. Damn. 3. ::groan:: I wouldn't have noticed it if you didn't point it out at the end... 4. 'twas when we had the sectional, I think you came in a little late; we were talking about what we could play with an octet and I brought the Mendelssohn up 5. Momo, what are some of those free sheet music sites that you raved about the other day? I'm looking for sheet music and stuff, but everything I find requires a paid membership (is that really free sheet music then? Think about it.)
1. I know. They suck. A LOT. 2. Damn's right. But Lucas still deserves a cookie. 3. *grin* 4. Well, we should play the mendelssohn anyways. Screw Mrs. Meade. WE'LL FORM OUR OWN OCTET, DAMMIT! 5. I'll have to find the sites again.
4. actually, that might not be a bad idea. Except I don't know how enthusiastic Yoni will be about it.
The mendelssohn quartet isn't all that great. Granted, it's very nice, but it's certainly not the best thing he ever wrote. I like the mendelssohn overture that we're playing in westchester strings better (and the violin concerto)
No, I am not saying the octet is bad. It is very nice and I like it very much. Just if you want to play something with 8 parts, play 'Fantasia on a theme by Thomas Tallis' by Ralph Vaughn Williams, because it is indeed the best thing Vaughn Williams ever wrote and is quite amazing at that.
True, the octet's not the best thing Mendelssohn wrote overall, but you have to admit that it's pretty damn good for it to be written by a 16 year old. His violin concerto...eh. I find it hard to understand why so many people gush about it. Sure, it's pretty, but...I dunno. Tchaik>Mendelssohn.
Don't mention YSO. I can't stand half the stuff we're playing this year.
I think I've heard of someone telling about that piece; I need to find a recording of that soon.
