Changmin’s heart was in turmoil, he could not bear to watch this travesty any longer. He tried to turn his head away, but he felt someone keeping his head straight. He cried out in pain when he felt a fist struck across his face. He opened his eyes weakly and stared at the screen, watching as Jaejoong was relishing in Yoochun’s abusive and taunting sexual play.

“S-stop,” he whispered hoarsely, unsure of whether or not he was speaking to Jaejoong or to the other goons. Soft, pitiful whimpers spilled from his mouth, and at first, he didn’t even realize he was making those sad noises until someone crudely taunted at him. His face darkened, his heart twisted, and he hated how he did not even know why this was causing him so much pain.

Animals, he thought. They’re just animals. It’s the rope that’s hurting me, not this trash. Not-

Changmin instantly clenched his hands when he sees Jaejoong screaming, crying, begging Yoochun to stop his abuse. It was not pleasure. At least, for Jaejoong it didn’t seem like it. He was in so much unbearable pain, and for the first time, Changmin saw just how helpless Jaejoong could be when he was stripped away of his ruthless persona.

Stop this! Stop this madness!

The words were screaming inside his head, but Changmin found himself suddenly without the ability to speak. As the minutes passed, Changmin could feel his sharp nails digging into his flesh, but strangely, he did not feel any pain there.

Why is Jaejoong like this? Why is he so helpless when Yoochun is there? What kind of control does Yoochun have over him?

The whirlwind of questions in his mind had managed to block out most of Yoochun’s dirty trick, but the occasional cry would pull Changmin’s out of the storm in his head. He stayed like that, forcing his mind to busy itself with other thoughts, of anything that did not remind him of this foul act. It worked out fine, for the most part, because after what seemed like forever, he could feel the rope loosening around his body, and when he turned his gaze over to the monitor again, the screen was blank.

“That Jaejoong is such a fucking little slut,” one of the goons laughed, quickly slapping his knees repeatedly in sheer amusement. He pulled another goon over to the side, but that act did not hide his secrecy from Changmin. The younger man could, much to his horror, still hear the sickening talk coming from the other men:

“Slut or not, he still looks like he would be a good little fuck.”

“He’s bullshitting himself by acting like a badass motherfucker. He’s nothing but a little whore.”

Changmin was about to scream, but he stopped himself when he heard the sound the door slamming open, and making a rough contact with the wall. He looked up and was shocked to see Jaejoong leaning against the threshold, dressed completely in his usual black suit, albeit a little messily, almost as if he were rushing to get here. The atypical tousled black hair combined with his usual hardened eyes made him seem even more dangerous than usual, almost a little unhinged, even.

“Who’s a little whore?” Jaejoong had a hand inside his jacket, and Changmin found himself wondering whether or not Jaejoong’s gun was hidden inside there. Jaejoong slowly walked into the dimmed room, moving just as stealthily as a cat. “So you think I would be ‘a good little fuck,’ right? But let me tell you something.”

Jaejoong walked up to the goon that made the remark earlier, pushing the other man roughly down onto the desk. The goon cried out when he felt Jaejoong pushing his knee into the man’s groin, grinding it slowly in a circular motion at first before finally picking up his pace. Jaejoong grabbed the man’s wrists, making sure to keep his victim securely pinned to the wooden desk. He whispered softly, almost in a sultry manner, “You ever try to pull something like that on me, and I won’t hesitate to blast your little precious jewel to pieces.”

Jaejoong carefully straightened up, and turned around to face the rest of the men in the room. As he readjusted his wrinkled clothes, he said lowly, “And that goes the same for all of you worthless bastards. Get back to work now.”

As he made his way to the door, Jaejoong grabbed Changmin’s arm, pulling him up instantly and just as quickly dragged him out of his torture chamber. They walked down the hall like that for a few minutes before Jaejoong suddenly let go of his hold on Changmin. As they continued walking-with Changmin keeping a safe distance behind Jaejoong-Changmin could see Jaejoong’s posture was still a little tensed. He quickened his pace and hesitantly reached out for Jaejoong’s shoulder. Just as he was about to grasp the shoulder, Changmin stopped, and he noticed that Jaejoong had also stopped walking.

“What’s wrong?” Jaejoong’s voice sounded a little drained, and Changmin was almost tempted to stay quiet about his questions.

In the end, he found himself letting his feelings pour out like rushing water. “Why’d you make me see that? What’s the whole point of it?”

The questions came out harsher than Changmin had intended, but he justified his severity by the humiliation he felt from watching that scene earlier. He was shaking noticeably, and he hated how he had lost all control of his body since arriving here.

“Why are you asking? Did it bother you?” Jaejoong pinned Changmin to the wall, leaning in close so his mouth was only a short distance from touching Changmin’s neck.

Changmin shut his eyes tightly, and instantly he could smell Yoochun’s scent lingering on Jaejoong, further reminding him of their “lovemaking.” He slowly opened his eyes and glared at Jaejoong. “No, why should it?” He tried hard to keep the tremble out of his voice, but he knew on some level it did bother him.

Jaejoong released his hold on Changmin, walking away nonchalantly, unaware of the frown on the younger man’s face. Changmin quickly followed Jaejoong’s slow strides, yelling angrily at the other man, “Aren’t you bother that he’s using you like this?”

Jaejoong stopped suddenly, and Changmin was close to crashing into the shorter man. Jaejoong turned to look at Changmin, anger was flickering in his eyes like a bright flame. “Don’t speak about Yoochun like you know him.”

Changmin flinched a little, but he still found himself answering back just as heatedly, “How stupid must you be to not know the way he operates?”

Before Changmin knew it, he found himself slammed roughly up against the wall the moment those words left his mouth. He inhaled sharply and shut his eyes tightly when he saw a fist coming at his face, but when he did not feel the contact, he opened his eyes slowly to see the fist just mere centimeters from crushing his nose.

“Don’t speak like you know him,” Jaejoong warned again in a low whisper, roughly letting go of Changmin and allowing him to fall to the floor in a loud thud. He turned away from Changmin, walking calmly down the hall, not caring whether or not Changmin would follow him.

Trembling softly, Changmin reached up to touch his nearly-beaten face. “Damn. I’ve crossed the line that time.”

He leaned his head back, letting it thumped softly against the wall. As he closed his eyes, he wondered why he was so bothered by it. Even though Changmin had not met Yoochun personally yet, he knew just how the man operated, playing with people’s feelings and mind like a skilled puppet master.

“Hm,” Changmin opened his eyes slowly and stared at the opposing wall intently. “These walls are thin. All of these rumor…how many of them are true?” Changmin ran his fingers through his hair, pushing most of it back. “Did he really kill a man when he was a child?”

Over the next few days, Changmin’s encounter with Jaejoong seemed strained, at least to him. Jaejoong, on the other hand, carried on like normal, but Changmin himself knew that he could not just forget what had happened that easily.

It was tiring. It was tiring being played like a violin by everyone in this group, and it was tiring when he thought he could finally relax, get settled in. When the last thought entered his mind, he would become disturbed with himself. He had only been here a short time, so why should he become used to being around these people? He found himself needing to remind himself constantly that these men were criminals, and that he needed to escape. Changmin had repeated those words so many times, it was becoming so tiring, and he just had to wonder whether or not this was his future now? Was it even worth it to leave, to even try to escape?

Go back to being a wealthy young man. His father company would now legally be his, and all of the wealth would be bestowed on him completely. Total control and anything his heart desired, they would all be his. Changmin’s lips drooped, because he knew none of that would make him happy. He was not happy before, so why should he be happy now?

If that were the case, then would he be happy here? Being a wanted man, a hired killer, become like every single lowlife in this place. Toss aside the wealthy lifestyle, and live this life of crime, would that make him happy?

No, he thought, a little uncertainly.

Changmin’s train of thought was interrupted when Jaejoong entered his room, and tossed a phone at him. Changmin looked up with a surprised expression on his face.

“It’s for you.” Jaejoong sat down on a chair, and continued to watch Changmin closely.

“H-Hello? Mr. Woo? What’s wrong?” Changmin could not keep the surprise out of his voice. He could not believe he was hearing a familiar voice, someone he knew over the line, but his surprise was quickly replaced by worried when he heard anxious yelling over the line. “My father’s laptop? What about it?”

“The password, the password he used to login, do you know it, young Master?”

“O-of course I do, or I think I do. He revealed it to me a long time ago, so I’m not sure whether or not it’s still the same.”

“Do you know the content inside?”

Changmin stopped talking, and he could sense Jaejoong’s fixed stare becoming more intense when he got quiet all of a sudden. He jumped when he felt a hand on his shoulder. “What’s wrong?”

“N-nothing,” Changmin quickly turned away from Jaejoong, and resumed his earlier conversation on the phone. “Mr. Woo, why not hire a computer technician to-”

“Absolutely not! Master, you know very well the high risk of spies coming in and stealing our information. While you’re not here, we cannot afford to have anything leaked out of the company.”

Changmin got quiet again, but his silence did not last that long this time. “Who’s in charge right now?”

He heard a long sigh on the other end before his question was answered, “The board of directors is currently controlling the company together, but with the position of CEO empty, it’s becoming more difficult to control those who want to seize that position. Master, please, let us send a rescue team to you-”

“It’s…too dangerous, Mr. Woo. Beside, I’m doing,” Changmin stopped and he looked outside his window worriedly. “I’m doing fine. It’ll be fine, I trust you, and I trust everyone else.”

“Master-”

Changmin quickly ended the call, and returned the phone to Jaejoong.

“You don’t look fine.”

Changmin looked up, and stared at Jaejoong. “What?”

“You told him you were fine, but you don’t look like it.”

“Well, I am.”

“Hm,” Jaejoong walked over and patted Changmin’s cheek lightly. “You’re a liar.”

Changmin swatted the hand away. “So what if I am. Aren’t you a liar?”

Jaejoong chuckled lightly, and Changmin could not shake the uneasiness away as he listened to the hollow laughter reverberating in the small room. “I wasn’t raised to have morals, so it doesn’t bother me. Aren’t you bothered by this?”

“Sometimes,” Changmin turned away from Jaejoong, “you have to lie to protect those you care about.”

“So are you lying to yourself right now?”

“Huh?” By the time Changmin looked up, Jaejoong had already left. Changmin sighed and lay down on his bed, his eyes were focused completely on the white ceiling. He had heard the question clearly, and knew that Jaejoong was right, on some level, he told himself.

“I don’t like it here. I don’t like you. I-” Changmin grabbed a fistful of the bed cover, “don’t want to go back home.”

“He revealed nothing, absolutely nothing.” Yoochun grinded his cigarette on an ashtray roughly. He looked up and stared at Jaejoong’s quiet form. “He’s hiding something, you saw how tensed he was back there, right?”

Jaejoong nodded, he kept his eyes focused on a TV monitor behind Yoochun. He had heard Changmin’s words earlier: “I…don’t want to go back home.”

Yoochun turned his chair around and stared at the same monitor Jaejoong was looking at. “He’s useless, but we can’t even dispose of him yet. We still need to break him, and find out MX GROUP’s secrets.”

Yoochun turned around again, and tossed the phone back to Jaejoong. “Dispose of this cell phone carefully, and,” Yoochun pushed a manila folder towards Jaejoong. “Find this guy. He has something of ours, and I want it back.”

Jaejoong opened the folder, and pulled out a large photo of a man. He looked at Yoochun quickly, “What did he take?”

“He copied all of our data onto a flash drive. It includes the detail of the firearm trafficking, the names of our partners and business associates, and even the names of those we have wiped out.” Yoochun pulled a new cigarette out of the carton, but he kept it unlit as he continued talking, “I have no idea whether or not he’s working for someone else now or even…if he plans to go to the police. Whatever the case may be, we are in danger until we retrieve the data and make sure there are no copies loosed.”

“I understand. Speaking of police, is Captain Nam still on our tail?”

“No, the man has been on a wild goose chase. We managed to clean up our steps well up until now, but if news about this flash drive gets loose, you do realize that we have nowhere to run, right?”

Jaejoong nodded. “Should I bring the boy with me?”

Yoochun turned the cigarette around repeatedly as he brooded over that suggestion. “Yes, go ahead. Oh, and Jaejoong.”

Jaejoong raised his head slightly. “Yes?”

“Kill the traitor. Show him we have no mercy towards backstabbers.”

“Of course.”
