Erik/Charles, Detective/FBI!AU

I got this idea in my head and now I cannot unsee it: Erik as a brooding, obsessive detective who's teetering on vigilantism in order to catch and kill a charismatic and elusive serial killer, Sebastian Shaw, who murdered his mother in front of his eyes. Moira is the lead agent of the FBI unit assigned to Shaw's case, and she ends up recruiting Dr. Charles Xavier, a reknowned specialist (clinical/criminal psychologist? a profiler? what?), who also happens to be a brother of the unit's newest recruit, Raven.
In the course of the investigation, Erik and the team cross path, and Erik and Charles get on like a house on fire. (And together, they fight crime!) I can totally see it, with Erik wanting to avenge his mother's death once they corner Shaw and Charles appealing to Erik's nature, and so on and so forth, but I would also love to see them solving other mysteries and fighting the good fight.
Bonus points if Hank, Alex, and Sean are the unit's fledging agents, because, aww.

The moment Erik strode back into his building, he noticed Emma was on her cell phone. “-Twenty to one,” she was saying, and then she caught sight of Erik and Xavier. A look of surprise flashed across her features and she said into the phone, “All right. Two hundred? Got it.” She scribbled something down on a notepad and snapped her phone shut. She was sitting backwards on her chair, arms resting on its back and chin propped up by one hand. “Where’s the FBI chick?” she asked

Erik supposed that if this were a noir detective movie, if it were shot in black and white with Erik as the dashing hero, there would have been a few key differences in this scenario. Xavier would’ve been blond, leggy, and female. Probably would’ve worn a trench coat, too. Erik would’ve smoked a cigar and reminisced about the bullet holes in his windows. Once he’d been handed this clue about Hank McCoy, he would’ve hit the local bar to interrogate the bartender who (somehow) would know everyone in the city. All the clues would fit together perfectly, pieces of a puzzle

Oh Erik! It would serve him right if Charles knew what he was doing and waited for him in front of Hank's studio, handing him his coffee - cold, he didn't expect Erik to take that long.

McCoy’s office was in one of the smaller buildings. It shared space with a Thai restaurant, a real estate office, and what looked like two separate dentists’ offices. Erik’s stomach curled in on itself and growled as he passed the restaurant, but he ignored it. He really didn’t have the spare cash for lunch out today. Past the restaurant was an elevator and the stairs. Erik turned away from the elevator-he was far too paranoid to trust his life to a small, enclosed space-and strode to the stairs

This is so cool X] I *knew* Charles was going to be waiting for him, adorable smartarse that he is! Am very liking Erik's initial assessment and the way it's slowly-believably-but-inevitably going to improve as they learn to respect and trust each other. Moira is also cool =D Very much enjoying this, way intriguing -- love the detail and texture. Can't wait for more ^^

Hey, guys! Sorry this has taken so long. I’ve been traveling so access to my laptop has been limited. I promise the next few updates will be more regular, and the story is starting to actually take off. Thanks for sticking with it. You’re all wonderful. Erik let his gaze drift over Hank McCoy. He held himself like a young, eager professional who was ready to snap up the first bit of business he could. There was a hint of nerves in the way he sat on the edge of his seat, but Erik could find no raw fear in McCoy’s face. If he was Shaw’s associate, then he was a freelancer-someone brought in for a one-time gig. But Erik couldn’t imagine this skinny kid doing anything more physical than lifting a camera
