Erik/Charles, Detective/FBI!AU

I got this idea in my head and now I cannot unsee it: Erik as a brooding, obsessive detective who's teetering on vigilantism in order to catch and kill a charismatic and elusive serial killer, Sebastian Shaw, who murdered his mother in front of his eyes. Moira is the lead agent of the FBI unit assigned to Shaw's case, and she ends up recruiting Dr. Charles Xavier, a reknowned specialist (clinical/criminal psychologist? a profiler? what?), who also happens to be a brother of the unit's newest recruit, Raven.
In the course of the investigation, Erik and the team cross path, and Erik and Charles get on like a house on fire. (And together, they fight crime!) I can totally see it, with Erik wanting to avenge his mother's death once they corner Shaw and Charles appealing to Erik's nature, and so on and so forth, but I would also love to see them solving other mysteries and fighting the good fight.
Bonus points if Hank, Alex, and Sean are the unit's fledging agents, because, aww.

As soon as McCoy vanished behind a door, Xavier leaned toward Erik. He said quietly, “You think he’s involved?”
“Doubt it.” Erik looked around the loft again. “And if Moira directed us to McCoy, she thinks he’s reliable.”
“You trust him?”
“I trust her.” Erik stood. New energy sang through his body and it was all he could do to remain in one place. He wanted to move, to run, to follow this lead wherever it went. He put his hands on the back of the chair just so he’d have something to hold onto.
McCoy returned, slipping a CD into a paper case. The CD went into Erik’s pocket; he curled his fingers around it gently, cupping it like it was the most precious of gems. “If you need anything else, here’s my cell number,” McCoy said, holding out a business card with a number scribbled on the back. Before Erik could react, Xavier’s hand snatched it up and he tucked it out of sight. When Erik met Xavier eyes, he saw a twinkle of mischief there. This brought the warmth back to Xavier’s eyes, made him look young and mischievous. He looked like a person who might have stories to tell, even if he kept them to himself. He raised his chin and his blue eyes swept over Erik. “Honest,” he repeated. “You don’t play around with words and you don’t have patience for people who do. You’re the type of person who knows what he wants and will do anything to get it. You drink your coffee black, keep a secretary who carries a handgun in her purse, and you chase serial killers in your spare time. And you know Shaw somehow

This is amazing. I'm a fan of this genre anyway - old black and white private detective movies litter my shelf at home - so this is a real treat. I look forward to reading more ;)

Soon the desk was almost entirely covered by pictures. Erik spread them out as he viewed them, laying them in sequential order. Xavier, following his lead, continued the system by laying his stack of pictures on the floor. Soon the kid was crouching on the (extremely dusty) hardwood floor, examining each picture with meticulous care
