Erik/Charles, Detective/FBI!AU

I got this idea in my head and now I cannot unsee it: Erik as a brooding, obsessive detective who's teetering on vigilantism in order to catch and kill a charismatic and elusive serial killer, Sebastian Shaw, who murdered his mother in front of his eyes. Moira is the lead agent of the FBI unit assigned to Shaw's case, and she ends up recruiting Dr. Charles Xavier, a reknowned specialist (clinical/criminal psychologist? a profiler? what?), who also happens to be a brother of the unit's newest recruit, Raven.
In the course of the investigation, Erik and the team cross path, and Erik and Charles get on like a house on fire. (And together, they fight crime!) I can totally see it, with Erik wanting to avenge his mother's death once they corner Shaw and Charles appealing to Erik's nature, and so on and so forth, but I would also love to see them solving other mysteries and fighting the good fight.
Bonus points if Hank, Alex, and Sean are the unit's fledging agents, because, aww.

I'm really enjoying this so far. Good casefic is a rare thing to find, but you've managed it admirably. I look forward to seeing the rest of it unfold. ♥

Again, so sorry for the slow updates. Life has decided to be a bitch this week and writing got shoved to the side for a while. Erik had learned a lot about being a private detective over the years-how to throw a punch, how to jump out of a moving car, how to set up a security camera, how to dismantle a security camera, how to talk to a client, how to tell if a man was an undercover federal agent or a mobster, and how to keep up relationships with informants. But there were also less exciting aspects of his work. Less glamorous bits that taught him a different sort of skill set-putting chips of ice into a sandwich bag to press against his bruised cheekbone. (This was how Erik learned never to simply flat out tell a client that her husband was cheating on her.) Sitting across from an auditor from the IRS. (This was how Erik learned never to let Emma do his taxes.) Waking up a few feet from his bed with an aching head, dry mouth, and empty bottle of gin resting a few feet from his fingers. (This was how Erik learned how not to

Erik wasn’t sure what response he’d expected from Charles but a chuckle definitely wasn’t it. Charles actually laughed quietly to himself, as if Erik’s words had been the punchline to some joke. “You really think so low of yourself?” he said, sounding thoughtful

YES ERIK TAKE HIM HOME AND PASS OUT
EXACTLY
...I have no life, I just realized. (sort of sheepish)
This is fantastic. I'm tempted to leave it alone for a full week and come back so I can have what this is leading up to in large bites.
(Yes, I know, not the way people usually indulge in temptations, but this fic is SPECIAL and makes me suddenly have foresight about my own hedonism, whafuck world, and also I love you anon.)

Charles’s apartment was on the fifth story of a large building-a newer place with sleek walls and a nice neighborhood. Erik was just going to drop Charles off, but a perverse curiosity made him park his car and follow the younger man through the front door. You could tell a lot by how a person lived, Erik knew. And if he was going to deal with Charles he should find out all he could about the younger man
